hsbc-star-alliance-card-art.pngWhy we like the HSBC Star Alliance credit card

Launched in 2022, the HSBC Star Alliance credit card is the first of its kind anywhere in the world. You'll earn Star Alliance Points which are transferable to a choice of seven Star Alliance member airlines at a time of your choosing. You can also earn Star Alliance Silver or Gold status just by spending on the card, with no flying required!

Once you qualify for the welcome offer and are fast tracked to Star Alliance Gold status with any of the seven participating carriers, you’ll soon be enjoying perks like airport priority lanes and lounge access when flying across the whole Star Alliance network. It is the largest airline alliance in the world with 25 member airlines, including Air New Zealand, Singapore Airlines, United and Turkish Airlines.

Please note that the welcome offer is not available to existing HSBC customers transferring from another HSBC credit card, or if you have previously held a HSBC Star Alliance credit card within the last 18 months. Refer to the full T&C’s for more information:

Did you lose or retain the year 2 status after you cancelled?
I cancelled earlier this year before year 2 fee, am one of the lucky ones, 50K retained until end 2025. Seems they've fixed that now.

(Used VA lounge extensively since. But VA benefits too as flew with them more often for the lounge. Sad to loose access, sitting in the BNE lounge on Friday watching England losing the cricket and drinking free beer...gold).

I am interested if you chose a different program for Year 2 if you spent $30k for silver etc and via the Star Alliance email you selected silver in a different program.? Thought that may for example generate a cancellation of say KF silver you just got and kept AC Gold. I didn't select a different program in Month 11 when the email came

My friend made the 30k spend and got asked to nominate a star silver airline. They chose SQ. They seem to have SQ silver and AC gold!

I'm finally looking to take the HSBC card. Im tempted to apply now and nominate KF (SQ) to get SQ Gold plus bonus points
  • "KrisFlyer Elite Gold Status and 25,000 welcome bonus KrisFlyer miles when you spend $4,000 on eligible purchases2 within the first 90 days of account opening and nominate Singapore Airlines as your status airline
20,000 anniversary bonus KrisFlyer miles when you spend $48,000 on eligible purchases2 in the first year of your account, and reselect Singapore Airlines as your status airline "
  • All good but the alternative is to go with AC and get 2 years status ?
    But no sign on bonus
Im unclear how i should assess the 2 options - what did you do to decide the selected airline?
Also, can you get SQ flights via Aeroplan? If yes, how does price on AP compare with direct on KF?
I've just tried to reply to my email regarding this promo but I think it's been taken away. Any help on this matter would be appreciated. Promo says 28th December end date.
My email was from Singapore airlines.

Not sure what you mean about "reply to your email" but the promo is still active until 28 December as you said, as per link here - https://www.singaporeair.com/en_UK/au/plan-travel/promotions/kf-promotions/hsbc-star-alliance/
Are they quick to send the cards after approval? I've been holding off for Christmas sales and don't want to miss it 😅
Just as a data point, I was approved on 13/12 (Saturday), still waiting for the card. Admittedly that's only been 6 working days as of now. But keen for the card to arrive!
