A letter in the mail today from HSBC whose Platinum Visa credit card I've enjoyed using. "Benefits that will change" should read "benefits that will disappear"

* Issue of 2 QF lounges passes a year will be discontinued

* You will now earn 1 QF per $1 spent up to $2500 per statement on eligible purchases made in Australia and o/s. (It doesn't say anything about 2 pts per $1 for purchases made o/s like currently
Every dollar spent thereafter will earn 0.5 pt per $.

Sounds like time to head for the door? When will these "jokers" realize that we are not interested in downgrades and restrictions.

Time to cancel your card then.

And there is no 'u' in Qantas.

re: HSBC Platinum Qantas Visacard "Benefits that will change"

:)... indeed there might be less of me in Qantas... as a traveller. Quite taken with Emirates business class nonetheless..

There is a I in Emirates

A lot of the cards out there, true credit cards, now have low earn rates, for Visa/Mastercard.
As low as 0.50 points per $1 spent, or 0.75 points per $1 spent.
Not to mention that annual fees will remain unchanged, while benefits drop off, maybe go to join QCC.
No annual fee, you earn 0.50 points per $1 spent as you would with some cards, lock in forex rates, ...

I haven't yet received this letter, but if true this will make me re-evaluate my credit card choice. It seems harder and harder to find a non-AMEX card that provides a straight point per dollar on domestic purchases. I've found the 2 points per dollar for overseas transactions pretty handy too.

No time to waste....reload the card and get to it!

re: HSBC Platinum Qantas Visacard "Benefits that will change"

Guess it's just a matter of time before I get the letter and when I do it will be bye bye birdie.

re: HSBC Platinum Qantas Visacard "Benefits that will change"

I cancelled mine as before I even received the letter, so I got my cancellation confirmation in one day's post and the letter advising me of the changes in the next.

I wonder what % of people will get rid of their card over this. Could be a very costly decision to have made.

got same letter and also another one advising that paywave will be in the next card. This was one of the better non-amex cards on the market, lets see what happens.

I'm waiting a week until the last month's points post and then will cancel. It was great for a while, annual fee waived every year after the first, points for ATO, and a few QP invited a year.

re: HSBC Platinum Qantas Visacard "Benefits that will change"

I'll be aiming for a fee waiver before cancelling but otherwise it's gone. And if so I'll just use it for the direct debits up to 2500 each month and leave the card on my desk at home.

Applied for QFCU Plat card on Friday. waiting for a response :)

very VERY disappointing by HSBC - both the changes but also the VERY short notice on this. I think they should have given 3 months notice. It basically means the current billing period (month) for points then the next one, which falls in Aug, prob falls in the new earning cap (as opposed to a cycle starting say mid August - it is not clear to me).

And in my own case I'm pissed as it's annual fee time too, but I have near 10k points in this period, so I don't dare cancel to avoid the annual fee and lose that value, I'd rather pay it (or try for waiver) then eek out say 2k points/month until next year then cancel.

HSBC have been great till this move imho.

re: HSBC Platinum Qantas Visacard "Benefits that will change"

OT can a mod please change Quantas to Qantas in the title?
Thanks

Received my notification today. Might keep it as a back up till "pay day" which is May next year. Makes my $59 Jetstar 1 point per dollar card look pretty attractive now.

So which card now? I haven't received the letter yet, rather I got an invitation to increase my credit limit. But knowing this is inevitable, I'm thinking of changing too.

The jetstar platinum MasterCard looks quite good, 50000 sign up bonus, $149 annual fee, and still 1pt/$. Can't see anywhere saying the earn rate is capped.

That was my thought on cards too.
