I filled out an ESTA app last yr for my trip to the USA

Thinking I wouldn't be going back anytime soon I discared the prinout I made to take with me.

I've been back to the ESTA website and you need the application number, which I don't have.

Is there any way to find out what the application number is?

Just re-apply:

Can I update my ESTA application, get my status, or board a plane if I don't have my authorization number?

Due to security/privacy concerns, we are unable to provide ESTA application numbers to people who have lost or misplaced them. If you lost, misplaced, or forgot your application number, you will have to re-apply for in order to get another one. Your old application number will be automatically cancelled and a new one will be generated for you.

If you lost your application number, you will not be able to update your contact or travel information in the system. That number is required to locate your file. But remember, it is not required for you to update your travel information in ESTA. Providing that information to us is optional. So if you have lost your application number and cannot update that information the next time you travel to the U.S., don't worry about it.

You are not required to present a printout of your application number to board your flight. That number is transmitted electronically to the airlines.

If you are waiting for your approval status to be confirmed, and you did not keep a copy of your application number to log in to see the status, you will have to reapply. We do not notify applicants of their status (approved or denied) by email.

If you are unable to re-apply, please come back to this FAQ and click on the "Ask a Question" tab at the top of this page, and send us the exact error message. If you do not have an email address for us to respond to you, please use [email protected]. Be sure to give us a phone number where we can contact you to resolve the problem.

BTW - does anyone else see the irony in the last two sentences? ;)

...well someone had better inform CBP/DHS that Jetstar is in violation.

Jetstar USA Pre-flight SMS said:
You must hold a print out of a visa or visa waiver approval number for travel to USA or Jetstar cannot guarantee uplift.

This year I have been asked for a prinout of my ESTA at checkin for both Qantas and AirNZ flight to the USA every time.

I'm sure they could look it up, it just saves time I guess.

I believe all new applications no include a 10 USD tourism tax, or at least there was a proposal for it.

i dont remember VA asking me for the ESTA printout.

HMM. Might have to try lodging a new one if it's still free :D

There is a proposal in the works. Hasn't started applying ... yet! (but that could change at any time).

The legislation for the USD10 fee has been passed, but it has not yet been Implemented.

I am keeping a close eye on this as I intend to get an fresh ESTA with a two year life just before this implementation is to begin.

I just had a look at the ETSA application I did in November last year, it says it is valid for 2 yrs.

So I'm assuming there's nothing wrong with getting a new ESTA before a previous 1 has expired?

The FAQ I linked to above seems to indicate that.

I have to apply for a new ESTA in the next few days (change of address). I wish they'd allow you change your "normal" address online.

Be sure to create a thread to advise the rest of us to do the same, please!

I'm not sure if there will be official warning of the implementation of the charge or not... but also watching with interest.

Edit:

Found a Guardian newspaper article ( http://www.guardian.co.uk/travel/2010/mar/05/us-charge-tourists-to-enter ) which says:

The date for the introduction of the fee has not yet been announced, but officials estimate it will take between five months and a year to set up a system to collect the money

So it may not be until August at the earliest.

Back to the OPs question about finding the ESTA - I was in the same position a couple of days ago and did a search in my email for esta - came up under that heading.

Was not asked to present the esta at any european check-point on the way to the USA. All they asked was 'do you have an esta?' and then they did something on their computer.
