Hi all,

has anyone submitted a claim for their travel insurance related to a COVID-19 infection and what documentation did you submit?

Here in WA you are required to self report a positive RAT test and you receive various text messages to confirm, however not sure if this is sufficient for an insurance claim? I called both the insurer (AMEX/Chubb) and my GP and neither was very confident in their response.

Any thoughts?

Do you have time to get a PCR whilst positive? I think that would be needed.

I claimed against additional hotel cost + cost of flight change earlier this year when I got Covid in the US.

Insurance through AHM but delivered by a third party they contract (Travel Insurance Partners)

Because the costs were over $1000 (6 nights in a suite), I had to submit a medical form (pages 9 and 10 here: https://static.ahm.com.au/files/forms/ahm-travel-insurance-claim-form.pdf) I went to my GP and showed them the PCR test result, they signed it and I sent it though.

No questions from the insurer but it took over a month to pay out. One plus was I did two claims (one for hotel and one for flights), and only payed the $250 excess once.
