How to claim HK departure tax from Classic Reward ticket

Hi everyone,

I recently redeemed a classic reward ticket with Qantas points, and I noticed an issue with the tax breakdown on the final e-ticket. According to the Hong Kong government’s new platform for claiming departure tax, the ticket must show a detailed breakdown of the tax categories (such as YQ, WY, YR, etc.), and the tax code should include “HK” for the claim to be valid.

Before the ticket was issued, I could see the tax breakdown clearly, but the final e-ticket only lists the total amount without any detailed breakdown of the individual tax components. Given that the T&Cs specifically mention the requirement for tax breakdown, I’m concerned that this could affect my ability to claim the departure tax.

Has anyone had a similar experience with Qantas? Is there a way to request them to reissue the ticket with the tax breakdown details? Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated!

What airline is your flight with? Sometimes you can request a ticket copy via other airlines' MMB that has clearer better breakdown of the fees paid than the QF one.

In that case, your best bet is probably to contact QF and see what they can do.

I've had a look back at past e-tickets and none issued by QF have a breakdown of the total taxes/fees paid. I'd be doubtful as to whether the system would allow an agent to issue an e-ticket formatted with this detail included - perhaps if you got someone competent in Hobart?

Failing that, I'd request written confirmation of the tax component breakdown, and submit it along with the e-ticket.

Didn't realise this still worked for tickets without an AY booking on them, but just tried and worked a treat. Problem solved!
