Hi all

My employer has a policy that does not permit me to accrue status credits or points for flights.

Is there a way to get my WP number on the booking so I get priority seat selection and lounge access but not actually accrue any points or status credits in the process?

Cheers

I suppose you could stick the FF in the booking, select the seat then Remove the FF number ....
Might be able to add it online, but will need to call to remove it. As we are talking about QFLink, there's not really seat selection until OLCI opens and then I'm not sure if the call centre can remove it? I've found the call centre can't do a lot once checked-in.
Why can't you just show your FF card at check-in and request a forward seat while saying "Don't put my number in the booking pls", and repeat at the lounge and priority boarding?
Most forward seats are taken at T-24 when OLCI starts for QFLink flights, thus waiting till you get to the airport would be futile.

Certainly fine for the lounge and PB though.

He'll just have to take someone's shadow then, if he wants to site up the front. Surely that's better than the equivalent up the back? Or why not call QF to select seats/request shadow up the front or somewhere else on the plane after booking has been made?

So I called the premium line and pretty much couldn't be done, unaware of the FQTS field. He did offer to select preferred seats and leave my number out of the booking but as you've mentioned with QF Link nothing available until check-in. He put "check-in" notes in the booking... not sure saying what.

I think I'll just chalk this one up as a loss and put it in the too hard basket unfortunately. I've probably spent more time thinking about how to get a better seat on the flight than the flight will actually take. :p

Other than the mandated govt situation, why would an employer prevent an employee from gaining points or SCs if it doesn't affect the price they pay for the fares? Seems draconian, miserly, stingy officiousness to me.

A few years ago, I had a private sector client who would book my flights on a QF contract rate (RPT flights, not charter) which was significantly cheaper than the retail rate at the time but did not earn any QFFP or QF SC. I could still put my QFF number on the booking to get WP services but the flights earned nothing.

I would have to guest the client rep into the QP even though they probably flew more than I did at that time...

Add your FF number to the booking, select seats, then after check-in get it removed again (on phone or in lounge).

Or just leave it in there and screw your employer's crazy policy. Do they think work travel is fun?

This policy is crazy.

I'd absolutely file a missing points claim. Excluding the FF number on a booking and with no FF number on a boarding pass (should the employer want to see it), they'd be non the wiser.

I have no issue spending more time in a lounge than the onward flight, especially SYD or MEL to New Zealand, so there’s no problem using the time as you have instead :p

Could you tell us what fare class it is booked in, that could tell us whether it would 'earn' or whether its one of those super discount ones

Personally, I would demand higher remuneration if you're barred from earning status credits.

Are you allowed to add your FF# for the benefits (priority boarding...lol, seat assignments, lounge, etc?)

Not surprising. I've come across exactly one agent (Canberra Qantas Club) who knew how to use the four different Amadeus (FQTS etc.) fields. All the other agents had no clue.

Indeed. I'd also be making sure all my travel (including too and from the airport) was completed during regular business hours.
