Hi, I have to book flights via our business travel agent. I requested for the flights to be booked on an upgradeable fare - but the bid upgrade says it's not possible on this fare.

Has the travel agent made a mistake?

Assuming you are booked in the correct fare class, you can only submit the request once the booking is ticketed.

To see the booking class for each segment just go to "Manage my booking". Class N, O and Q can't be upgraded, everything else is upgradable.

Thanks.. it appears the fares are M and V so should be ok... maybe it hasn't been ticketed yet. Really appreciate you coming back so quickly :)

Points upgrade is different to a bid upgrade. Bid upgrades you have to be invited to do so. Not on all flights and not on all days. Can vary.

I haven’t flown for a while but I was surprised when my partner and I were offered the chance to bid for an upgrade on Fridays BNE to CNS flight on 3 occasions now .

What surprises me is that QF had zero business class seats on sale on the date of the last 2 offers and seat map on EF shows all seats occupied.

It is no biggie but why would they offer the chance to upgrade when there are no seats to upgrade to .

I did wonder if they were expecting no shows or if the aircraft may be changed to say a 330 .

What do you think?

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

or a data collection exercise? Send out the offers and see what people bid. Even though none of the bids are going to be accepted it gives them an idea of what to set the range in the future.

I notice the Qantas app now allows you to submit a Bid Now upgrade request within 7 days of departure for eligible flights according to the release notes for the latest update.
And it also allows a cash only bid or combined with points (subject to minimum and maximum)
