Well its not really a tone, you guys are trying to pick holes in the AA over QF argument, we are trying to pick holes in your alternative view argument. Am not really see why you see this as "putting you down" or a "tone" when we are just taking the opposite side to you. Sure our argument tries to pick holes in yours(which it appears you and JohnK see as personal), but the same applies to your arguments.

PS. Agree with the QFF as being in some cases very easy to get, still doesnt mean I see much value in them (as per title of the thread).

Plenty of posts in this thread that contribute very little and just want to close the discussion down to a level of "how great is AA"

LOL putting down or taking things personal....can't say I posted or felt anything like that!

The thread title is open to interpretation and so is the discussion....AFF would be a very boring place if it wasn't.

"Establishing a credit rating in America" is our journey on an AFF blog where after about 30 years of travelling to the US I wanted credit cards there.
I remember spending an hour trying to get a Sears credit card but all I ended up with was an umbrella. Then much later I wanted Nordstrom Zanella trousers on pre-sale with a Nordstrom credit card and all I got was smiles and No Deal.
Now you cannot wipe the smile off my face as I can make AA miles off everything I use a credit card for but it comes out at 0.93 points per dollar due to the exchange rate. It is 1.69 miles per British pound so I love that.
My youngest son thought business class from Rio to Miami was very ordinary but I have found the AA/BA combination over the Atlantic to be excellent.

Somewhat ironically some of these are bemoaning the lack of value in QFF on other threads but feel they have to defend here and would seem not to think some of us actually have points in multiple programs and hence know what they have said in the QF thread (and the VA thread, and JQ threads ...). Split personalities anyone?

I am confused what you are trying to say!!!!

I have also got miles/points in multiple programs. The statement about finding it hard to find value is true. The biggest problem is the value is in the eye of the beholder. i.e. Just because a SYD-HKG business class airfare retails for ~$4,000-$5,000 does not mean it is worth that much.

And as always YMMV....

While it is a promo, there have been a couple of occassions when you could get somewhat decent points per dollar on Amex transfers via SPG to AA. Last month 40K MR points became 30K AA (or US) due to a AA/US promo of 20% bonus (40K MR became 20K SPG, SPG give 5 K bonus on transfer to AA, so 25K, then AA added 20% - 5K on top). So .75 AA per $.

In another promo not sure if last year or year before, 80 K became 75K (50% bonus) which is 0.93 AA per point. So there are opportunities to get decent AA earn, albeit only with promos (but noting one of the benefits of Amex MR is you can warehouse and wait for these opportunities). Of course this depends on your relative valuation of AA vs QF points given you can get 1.5 QF per dollar but I wont pollute this thread, if you want to discuss that go to http://www.australianfrequentflyer....antage/how-much-more-valuable-aa-61894-8.html
