Are you jet lag proof or simply permanently jet lagged?

I actually don't suffer too badly. I reckon I would just stay on AET and sleep and eat when appropriate for MEL.

Jetlag, I've heard of the mystical thing... After my long weekend in LAX I kinda figured I'm jet lag proof...

It's funny, the worst I've ever felt Jet lagged was going from CBR to PER and experiencing a 3 hour time difference... Going CBR to MIA with a 14 hour difference, didn't lose a wink of sleep at night and didn't want to sleep during the day...

The thing is that she knows I play the FF game, and yet couldn't get her head around the fact that no I didn't pay close to full price for the tickets. Sometimes those conversations with family are not by choice...

I often get this too, in the end I don't tell them about the indirect routing,or the lounges or the in flight csm greetings or the op ups or priority checkin/boarding etc
Otherwise I get too many questions or the old "why would you want that for sounds like a waste of money I'm happy with my jq flight to x"
My wife used to be the same but now is an addicted FFer and loves lounges, business class and indirect routing !

I'm a little surprised that mum isn't a bit more across travel, since my grandmother and aunt both used to be TA's, and my aunt / grandfather used to teach travel at CIT... I guess half the problem is she herself hasn't really done much in the way of travel in over 10 years, so still equates travel = expensive, and all the travel dad does is from someone else's wallet, so whilst still Y, he does not exactly need to be scrimping for the sale fares.

I am in the process of corrupting an older brother by getting him further forward on the A380. I will be interested in how he feels about Suites class from MEL to CDG on SQ. Getting him out of J was not a big battle.
The immediate family are sworn to secrecy about SQ Suites as we don't need their friends to turn green with envy. With so many points that expire in a 3 year plus 11 months period you have to keep the deal running hard.

Swmbo generally isn't interested in AFF related thoughts/ideas.It seems she might be coming around as she mumbled something today about aiming for SG and planned an upcoming work trip to ORD, with very indirect routing.

Is Cirrus the new 1-2-1 concept? What's wrong with it?

I have been a lurker on this forum for a few years now. I have managed to go from red to platinum with Velocity with some of the advice from this forum. I do enjoy the Y to J upgrades domestically but have just paid to do an international trip in J with Etihad. Some of my friends ask how I can afford it but then when I try to explain they seem to lose interest.

I don't bother telling people At work I went to SIN for a weekend. It would be too much explaining. If it's a long weekend or a bit more rational, I might just explain it away with "I got a cheap fare"...

On a slightly related matter, how would people get to Nepal in J from Per? Should I be looking into these life miles things? Any ideas?!

I am happy to share the principles and outline of what can be be achieved with anyone who is interested - I delivered this through a "Lunch and Learn" at my workplace and received a very enthusiastic response.As to the personal details of what I am prepared to do to secure my own frequent flyer status, that is kept more private.My family think I am somewhat obsessed!!

I pretty much limit my advice to credit cards and that flying on points doesn't normally save me much money, just what part of the plane I fly in. Interest levels are typically not there.
Apart from comfort levels, the most significant benefit for me is becoming far more organised when it comes to holidays to the point where my better half has set ground rules on the frequency of our trips.

My partner's family constantly wonder about how she and I can afford to travel overseas as often as we do, and in J for the most part, because we are in quite a low income bracket by their/today's standards. Mind you, they don't ask us directly, they talk amongst themselves - we just hear the gossip from my mother-in-law! We manage it, like most on this forum, by looking for point earning opportunities anywhere and everywhere (yes, it can become obsessive) and then using those points wisely to maximize their value - so rarely for travel in Y.

I've tried to explain to friends who have asked how we do it but for the most part they consider it to be too hard or complicated. It just takes effort and if they can't be bothered then I see it as their loss and my gain - less fish in the pond.

I am a complete novice alongside some of the AFFers here but I have learnt a lot reading countless threads and posts - and I've still got a lot to learn (USDMs) - and I would never have known about chasing status through Aegean credits, which will be excellent. We earn 90% of our points through credit card spend and have just recently got the 20k bonus point offer with the Velocity Visa card - now looking to the Macquarie Bank offer. Both proud AFF 'school' achievements!

I have experienced the glazed eyes (from people who are then always amazed at my "lucky" good seats or flying experiences), so whilst I am happy to share my point nerdery knowledge, I rarely do. I've told people at work a few times now that I got my "weird" indirect routing because it was a cheap deal, as they just wouldn't understand why I would go from SYD-HKG via PER and SIN instead of going direct (on VA with kids, for a cheap and valuable SC haul in Y - with family pooling - so I could retain VA platinum).

I love reading on here and knowing that I am not alone in my obsession to book flights with the best points/SC value, so that I can enjoy the bonus perks of status when I fly in Y - which I generally do as I am self employed. The lounges, lack of queues, better seat selection and extra baggage make that Y travel so much better. Plus I am saving my points up for a family J RTW trip next year, so all my extra effort will be well worth it as there is simply no way we could do that trip otherwise. I am sure I will get the "how can you afford that" comments from family and friends, but I guess it is like the old saying - if it were easy, everyone would do it So I am kinda glad that not everyone does it.
