How many AFFers will be on the first JQ787 commercial service MEL OOL Nov 13?

I'll pass although sufficient curiosity that if it was ex ex-SYD service I might do.

That so many AFFers are keen to fly JQ must gladden corporate JQ hearts

What festivities do you envisage? Free packet of cheese and a coke. That would blow the Death Star budget.

safe travels

Hence why I said "May" be some festivities... who knows what is possible, bear in mind this flight is not just a JQ flight, it is also a Qantas Group gig, as per all the hoopla around the flight from Seattle via HNL.

Either way, by arriving at 9:20am it allows plenty of time in the event of a delay, and also not too much time in case the 20 cupcakes they have on offer get snaffed up by the employees.

I think you will find regardless of airline, JQ, QF, VA etc there would be some level of interest in the actual aircraft itself, it is the only reason I am doing the flight (plus it means hitting PG a month prior to when I was expecting to hit that level).

Normally, the only time I fly JQ is if it involves an FLounge visit, or one of shear necessity (flying to/from HNL on days that QF does not fly, although that point is kind of moot whilst QF still fly prehistoric 763's on that sector, fingers crossed that will change sometime into 2014 when JQ fly the 787 there, and QF upgrade the services to A332/333 metal)

Just booked the flight from Melbourne - OOL contemplating wether or not to book the return with a price match or just fly OOL - SYD home on Virgin. Currently thinking I'll get the first 767 from Sydney to Mel of the day. Furthest Seat I could get up the plane with a window was 36A though :/

If you would like to include some virgin travel on the day just to have all 3 of the big guys in one day I will be flying back on the second last VA flight back MEL SYD. :) Could keep me company if you would like haha

When I messaged the JQ crew they did definitely say somethings were planned. You gotta remember even airlines like JQ have budgets for this - that been said they could always just give us all a QC invite and put us in a sectioned off area therefore passing the catering costs onto QF Mainline.

I would lean towards suggesting that even if it was TT I might consider it. (Key word is consider) As one of the lucky few who are seated in Star Class I think it just takes the edge off the experience.

I agree re the interest in the plane, flight etc - would love to have flown the last SQL SIN-EWR flights even though I'm a OneWorlder

As to flying on JQ I'm at the stage where I'd only them them if I lost a bet! Yeah, an exaggeration, but I won't fly them for any business activity unless there was no other alternative!

Well AI did fly one into Australia first. Of course I know what you're getting at, and also who would fly AI... ;)

Atleast JQ has the backing of The QF Group's safety standards people. (Which could be a plus or a minus depending on how you look at it)

Jetstar ? No, 1st 787 Dreamliner flight in Australia--- yes
I guess if being on the first 787 flight in Australia by an Australian airline is that important to you then go for it.

Personally I will wait until the 787 has had a few flights and is being operated by a reputable airline....

I am flying down from SYD on QF413 @ 7:45am (I don't think it is the first 767 going down, but a 9:20am arrival time allows for enough time in the event there may be some festivities before the JQ432 flight) Flying back to SYD on QF863

I've been thinking of QF409 @ 07:00, though unsure what time any formalities would start QF413 is the next option at this stage. Anyone have any idea what time any festivities would probably take place, 08:35 or 09:20 are the arrival times I'm looking at atm.

With VA currently at $85 and Qantas currently at $89 I can't bring myself to fly Virgin MEL - SYD even though I probably need the status credits with VA. If I fly back from OOL - SYD it'll be the last Embraer of the night, if I decide to do the return flight to MEL I'll be on the 3rd last Qantas flight from MEL which is a 767 and last to serve dinner.

Hmmm thanks :) That makes it a harder choice :p Though it'll save me an extra $7 flying back from the Gold Coast if I go with that option.

Just come back to MEL and then up to SYD on VA. The day is a write off anyway by the time your going to get back to SYD from either OOL or MEL ;)

Apparently the 787 will be landing into OOL this afternoon around 16:30 if people are nearby....

(that's QLD time of course, btw).

Currently at the skate park end awaiting its arrival, scheduled at 1600 now.

RWY 14 is in use at the moment so we should get a good view of the arrival!
