Hello,

How long can it take to get the standard Qantas status credits applied to your account?
In all my experience so far it's always applied on the same day, but can it take longer? Are there any Qantas guidelines on this?
I'm planning a status run towards the end of my membership year, would like to book about 2-3 days before the year end date as I'd like the DSCs to go over to the following year (I'm only 90 SCs short of platinum).

Thanks.

In a majority of cases status credits and points are credited during the flight and will be in your account before you land. DSCs usually follow within a few days, but sometimes can take a bit longer.

It doesn't work like this. DSC are always backdated to the date of the actual flight. If the crediting of DSCs is delayed so that they post in your next membership year, they'll expire immediately due to the backdating.

Standard SCs usually post before you have landed on Qantas metal, and within a day or two for non QF metal.

The DSCs may post later but they are always backdated to the date you flew, so will land in the FF year the flight was taken, not the new year.

The only SCs that you can defer posting are Loyalty Bonus and Green Tier if you time it right.

Previous DSCs I got were credited some weeks after the original SCs, along with the comment "activity took place on ...". I always thought the credit effective date was the date shown, not the date the activity took place.

The effective date has always been the activity date and I think this is fairer. For example, if you planned flights towards the end of your membership year specifically to attain a higher status. If there was a delay in crediting SC's towards the end of the membership year and they are posted in the following year, you'd miss out. I think it's better to have certainty that the activity date is what matters rather than it be some random date that the system ends up posting the SC's.

Always applies for the dates of the flight taken.

Does that mean if the DSC took until after status expiry to post and meant the difference between status retain, you'd still retain the former status once it posts?

Also, does that also mean if you get Green Tier within 90 days of status rollover, you can just wait until the next membership year to apply it?

Yes.

Yes - same with loyalty bonus.

And this is why usually it takes a few days for your account to settle and the end of the membership year.

I know with Hilton it takes them most of January to finalise your account for the year and you keep your status until March regardless, which would allow for any delays like these.

Potentially it could lead to losing your status for a few weeks if you book a DSC flight a few days before the end of your membership year and retaining your status depends on those DSCs. Since it could take 6-8 weeks before the DSCs are applied to your account, your status might drop a level for those few weeks before it's reinstated.

Qantas are pretty good at this. If late posting SC's meant you travelled in the interim at a lower status than you should have thus earning less (if any) Status bonus than should have been the case, the difference gets automatically credited. Of course, that may not help with missed lounge access for those who dropped to PS in that interim.

So my flight last week saw me tick over to WP, my membership card in the app shows Platinum and i got the congrats email. But when i checked in online last night digital boarding pass still shows gold, and paper boarding pass provided at NOU just now also shows Gold.

I have tried logging in and out of the app to no avail.

Any idea why the mismatch?

Say you took a DSC flight on 20 March 2023, and your membership year expires on 31 March 2023. Due to late posting of DSCs your status upgrade only kicked in on 30 April 2023.
Does your new status extend until 31 March 2024 (because the flight took place during the 2022/23 year) or 31 March 2025 (because the upgrade kicked in during the 2023/24 year)?
I'm hoping it's the latter as I will have this scenario later in the year..,

I think it'll be 2024 based on the transaction date instead of the posting date...

no. It will apply to the year when it was earned, not when posted. Sorry for the bad news.

the only exception to this is loyalty bonus SC if redeemed in the new membership year, even if earned in the prior year (ie: within three months of the end of the membership year).

The time it takes to receive standard Qantas status credits varies, but in many cases, they are applied on the same day. While there is a general trend of prompt application, there is no specific timeframe mentioned in Qantas guidelines. If you plan a status run close to the end of your membership year, booking 2-3 days before the year-end date may ensure that the earned status credits, including DSCs, carry over to the following year. Keep in mind that the actual processing time may depend on various factors, and it's advisable to check with Qantas for the most accurate and up-to-date information.

Not sure why a ChatGPTesque answer popped up here, but regardless of when they post, they will count toward the membership year of the flight (specifically the scheduled departure date of the flight). They don't carry over to the following year.
