Hi team,

I'm looking at a super economy cheap flight with a 13 hour layover. I'm Platinum Virgin FF, so can access first class lounge, which I have done before and is excellent.
Are there any time restrictions on this? I think I'd be happy there for 12 hours....that's a lot of bloody marys.....

Friends are doing a similar transit next year and will be booking into the ibis close to the airport (Abu Dhabi Gate). It actually looks more like a three star than two. And reasonably priced.

I once had a seven hour transit in bangkok… back in the ‘glory days’ of the first class lounge… hour long massages, restaurant, plush lounge and seating, even a dedicated smoking room in the lounge if that was your thing. Quite a long way from the end of that I was climbing the walls. There’s only so much you can do.

Six hours in the Emirates first class lounge at Dubai was similar. And indeed Lufthansa’s - rather good - lounges in Frankfurt.

I’d reckon four hours or maybe five, tops. A good sleep in a hotel might make it more enjoyable!

Just booked the flight - fair comments all round - thanks for tip on hotel - looks totally fine for approx AUD$100!

Anything more than 3 hours in any lounge is a waste of time
Unless going landside means a 2hr queue to return!

But yeah, not something to do be choice if there are shorter transit options but sometimes the price diff means that extended visit is worthwhile. I’ve done ~8 hrs in the EK F Lounge, something like midnight to 8 am… Shower, dinner, wander, snooze, breakfast. Then got upgraded from J -> F at the gate (on a QF reward!).

I spent a night in EY F lounge in AUH a few yrs ago. no doubt things hv changed, there is a hotel airside And I’d be disinclined to repeat this. Anyway me and the much better half checked-in one eve, her for 10pm flt to Syd or Mel, me for 9am next morng flt to Sin.

Some concerns at check-in about the differences in Itins which I sought to answer by saying that, because we were travelling separately, I wanted to see my wife safely away and would be happy to stay in the lounge. I think that explanation was key.. It took a 20 min reference to adjacent Immig authority but we were allowed thru and upstairs to the F lounge, where we had dinner, I saw the BH off to her gate, went back to the lounge for a bit of work, a bit more red and then, with the lounge services closing, occupancy of a room opp the lounge desk, a quiet room with a long comfy couch, pillow and blanket. Staff had said there was a 4 h time limit but nobody came near me. Got up at 8 ish, had a shower, breakfast and was ready to go for my morng trip to Spore.

But that was a particular circumstance and years ago. With age I now doubt I’d ever want to spend that length of time in one place, unless there was a proper room and a bed attached..!
