How good is the Qantas First Class lounge in Sydney?

Can't do that anymore ex-SYD without paying extra as QF changed their permitted routing to only allow SYD-LAX and nothing else.

Yes, I know that it involves some extra $$ but it's worth it IMHO.

I will have better connection options @ LAX with the earlier (6:40am) QF93 arrival.

Even then, I won't be in BOS until 22:20 or so.

The Sydney FLounge must be good, after all, on the first day of the summer menu, all the QF staff eat there.

I don't mind the FLounge at NRT, perhaps because the food, staff and atmosphere are a little different from the normal western Flounges at SYD, LHR, JFK etc. I prefer the MEL Flounge to the SYD one as it is more intimate and the staff pick up on this and also attempt to be a little more friendly. The FLounge at DXB takes some beating on the grandiose scale, but lacks that friendly feel and many of the staff are underpaid Asians who really don't want to be there.

Thai F Lounge complex at BKK has to be experienced. Almost like a trip back in time to a world of 1st class POSH (Portside Out, Starboard Home) steamship travel. Nothing is too much trouble. You are treated like royalty. And talk about massage! What would you like? Amazing place the Thai F Lounge complex at BKK.

1st Class Paxs only. Status does not get you in:

I assume you much prefer the A380 hence deliberately going via MEL?

The novelty wears off very quickly. The first visit in June 2007 was great.

If Qantas still had the late evening flights to SE Asia then the First lounge would be worth it. Not going to waste my time for a 10:00am departure and would rather route via BNE and get SIN at the same time.

THAI Services - On Ground : Royal First Lounge

Spa: (only 1st class paxs, no guests)
THAI Services - On Ground : Royal Orchid Spa

I believe TG platinums do get access to the F lounge and J pax have a limited spa service.

I'm a fan. Will be back tomorrow!

Salt and pepper squid with Heemskerk Riesling
Black angus steak with Devils Lair Cab Sav
Gelato and sorbet with De Bortoli Noble One
Half hour back massage
And 20 minutes or so gazing at planes on the loungers with various divine champagnes!

Favourite lounge anywhere in the world (except maybe MEL - see you Wednesday!)

It's almost exactly the same stuff I did last time I was there. I think I even had the exact same wines as well :) the Noble One is my favourite desert wine, too bad Qantas took it out of the business class menu.

Friends

Would anyone know the spa opening times on the weekend @ SYD ?

? 8-4pm

Or is it closed on the weekend ?

Thanks in advance

In August we went at 8am on a Sunday - so weekend is as normal as as I know.

It is a good lounge, but personally I prefer the F lounge at DXB......maybe the novelty hasn't worn off yet.

Have to agree - this is the best lounge in the world, in my experience - BUT only if you're talking about Terminal 1. Terminal 3 is completely different.

The food and service are amazing. The tall guy in the smoking lounge (I think he might be Fillipino?) is the best.

When you walk in and the guy remembers you and is excited to see you, that sticks.

Hi Guys,

will have my first visit to the Flounge in Syd in a couple of weeks and want to know, what are the best tips for a first timer?

Flying QF 127 so it will be an arrival promptly at 6:30am to make the most of it.

Thanks,

Shan

Time your entry so people walking past can see you enter but they have to be content with looking at the door. :)

As soon as you arrive ask at the front desk if there are any spa appointments (if that's your fancy). Then move to the restaurant area and choose your meal, relax and enjoy whilst plane spotting and maybe even looking for celebrities.

Do go for a walk around to see the splendor of the lounge.

Maybe eat another meal after your spa. Then proceed regally towards the priority boarding area and enjoy the flight.

Ha! It is always somewhat disappointing when there's no one around to see you enter the frosty gates. :)

Little wonder QF are going broke. While Rome burns Nero fiddles.
Considering the cost of an F seat, I don't think it's unreasonable to provide such amenities.

Also, QF will happily charge a not unsubstantial amount of cash to OW partners who's elites use the lounge. I don't think the F lounge would actually be that much of a drain on QF's bank balance (and they only have MEL and SYD of that standard, the rest are most definitely nothing to write home about, until LAX opens).

Agreed, I don't think the F Lounge really costs QF much at all.
