How good is the Qantas First Class lounge in Sydney?

Agree with JohnK. I actually prefer the MEL F lounge as it tends to be quieter and more relaxed than the zoo that SYD can be. Unless you have a pressing need to come here, I would fly out of MEL and not waste money on a nights accommodation.

It is a good lounge, but personally I prefer the F lounge at DXB......maybe the novelty hasn't worn off yet.

DXB's F lounge is like a huge lounge-room with its classical furniture. However, my problem is that if you're travelling SYD-LHR you'll be there around 1am, or if travelling back you'll be there around 8am, and probably very tired - not the time to enjoy their facilities properly. In Sydney most flights give us the chance to have some hours to enjoy the F lounge before commencing our long-haul flight.

I'm fortunate enough to be Melbourne based so fly QF9/QF1 to LHR and QF2/QF10 back. Leisurely dinner in the F Lounge on the way over and a leisurely breakfast on the way back.

Has anyone received comments at SYD Flounge entrance and counter for flying JQ35 to Melbourne? Are comments inappropriate?

Has anyone received a humiliating 'dig' at SYD Flounge entrance and counter for flying JQ35 to Melbourne? I received 2 shots on my way in on Tuesday. I even had to produce my Qantas Platinum Card. Neither of these women knew the rest of my (Qantas) itinerary or the reason for my trip. They did not know that my travelling companion is suffering from PTSD and awaiting biopsy results. They did not know I had received a call minutes earlier from my dad to advise No further treatment available and he could be gone before Xmas. Needless to say, I was left speechless and blushing. We only had 15 minutes there and thank goodness our delightful waiter treated us like royalty....and yes, he was well aware of our Jetstar Boarding passes. All I can say is OUCH! Were these comments inappropriate?

Sorry to hear of your circumstances. It's hard to comment on the 'digs' without you telling us what was said.

Very inappropriate to make derisory comments.

I've always shown my WP card with my BP and been welcomed into the lounge without further comment.
Is there any reason you didn't have the card ready with your BP?

Suggest you provide feedback to Qantas but mention the comments by staff. Your reasons for travel are irrelevant to the matter at hand.

Thanks HVR. No. I didn't have my WP Card with my BP. I have never had to show it before

Thanks QF029. Wording at the entrance was "Oh, on one of these cheeky Jetstar Flights". At the counter it was similar, but for the life of us we cannot remember the actual words, but the woman made her comment and turned to the guy sitting next to her and showed him the Boarding Passes.

Sorry to hear your family circumstances ALH.
There is no excuse for any rudeness - I got it once at MEL F checkin flying Y as a CX Diamond - funny how the bad experiences stick in your mind more so than the good ones.
Re showing the WP card, I think the only time I didn't offer it when flying JQ I was asked for it. According to the guy there is no indication on the BP of your status or right to enter the lounge (I had noticed a few codes on it and figured one of them may have held the secret but apparently not so) - this was domestic rather than international though.

I was almost certain it showed my Platinum status on the Jetstar Boarding Card, however you don't get to keep them when you fly Domestic on an International Flight, so I can't check. Never mind, I was happy to produce it.

No need for staff to make cheeky comments.

If your status was in question they could easily look that up on the system.

Very poor.

Indeed. It's one step away from being the social leper travelling in whY.

That wouldn't be too far off how the BA dragon treated my father and I entering the BA lounge at LHR T3 whilst traveling back home on QF.

Your status isn't shown on your JetStar BP, and your FF number may not even be on it if you haven't purchased the relevant package.

On another note, it is always wise to photograph your BP just in case the points/SCs don't come through. As you noted, in this situation the BP is kept by IMMI officials. If you were asked to produce it for the purpose of claiming your points/SCs then you might have some difficulty claiming them.

Those people! The F dining room guard gave my family and I a very cold shoulder.....quite liked shoving their invitations up their snooty noses!

I plan to do the opposite next year, having sampled SYD F lounge recently.

QF93 arrives in LAX earlier, allowing you to have better connection / arrival timing to the East Coast (esp. when I prefer to have a stopover somewhere - ORD, DFW - to increase the SC yield).

Once you take the day off work for your trip, you might as well start the trip earlier (11:30am for QF93 vs 14:30 for QF11).

The little extra SCs going to MEL wouldn't hurt anyone.

Plus, one gets to sample the famed MEL F lounge - itself worthy of a diversion.

I have not visited either SYD or MEL F lounges but it seems for next year to LAX I have a choice, I could either fly the day before to SYD and jump on QF11 or leave from MEL on QF93.
Is the SYD F lounge that much better than the MEL lounge that I should route my trip through SYD ?

It won't cost me anymore in flights, just a nights accomodation, though I haven't been to SYD for a while so wouldn't mind that.
Suggestions ?

Can't do that anymore ex-SYD without paying extra as QF changed their permitted routing to only allow SYD-LAX and nothing else.
