How Generous are QF with Renewal

Status

I am a QFG, and my renewal is also the 28th Feb.
I am 10 status points short of retaining G.
I have 2 paid J returns to Mel & BNE booked/paid for in March & a return in F to SIN booked and paid for May
I rang QFF today to discuss me being 10 short and to request renewal.

They stated as l was comped last year being 20 short, they will not do it again this year.
Even with my 2 paid J and F bookings.

They really did not want to know.
Whilst l did get comped for the small amount last year.

I do find it a little disconserting that others are comped year after year with far greater status shortages.
Espeacially when my flying record is always in paid premium cabins with forward bookings and iv'e kept this flying history for over 11 years.

Whilst l do not fly the quantity of some here, l make up for it big time in what cabins/class l pay for.
I do find the system and their decisions a little hard to comprehend sometimes.
Also l find QF's consistency in these decisions leaves a lot to be desired.

Who knows, maybe i'm just being selfish.

jaffa,

Maybe I have missed it in the thread but my experience is not of people being comped year after year.

I have seen many people comped once though.

Unfortunately we don't know what criteria Qantas uses, how it is implemented and even how much it changes each year, so the mass of experiences shown aren't really that representative of the whole FF base.

I would have thought being on (presumably) fairly profitable fares for QF that there would be some more leniency there ... 10/20sc's is pretty much nothing in the scheme of the 700 required to earn/600 required to renew SG membership.

Is there a day trip to Cairns coming up????

Sometimes there are opportunities for people to get extra SCs although most want to take the most direct route.

e.g a SYD-BKK return costs ~$1500 (even more around Christmas), earns 60 SCs and is hardly ever on sale. One can get a SYD-SIN return via MEL both ways for ~$1100 (sometimes less) and earn 80 SCs then a SIN-BKK return on CX in business class for ~$570 and 120 SCs (280 SCs if you can get it routed via HKG both ways). Even better value when you can purchase your airfares back to Australia from Asia.

e.g a BNE-AKL return may cost ~$400 and earn 40 SCs where as a BNE-AKL via SYD both ways may cost ~$420 (an extra $10 each way) and earn 60 SCs.

If these indirect routings can be built into the work trip/holiday then there is no need to do status runs close to reassessment or hope that QF comps status for another year.

Sux.

Perhaps taking all that premium business to another carrier is in order?

Congratulations. I am not really surprised. But it must be a nice relief to know its good for another year.
Indeed it is nice, considering I'll finish the year on 410 SC's. But now my comping days at Plat and Gold are over (as I've had one at each). Since I am Life Silver, then I will have to earn Gold or Plat the BIS way (until 14K SC's anyway). Thankfully, I think I'm a shoe in to retain Gold this coming year.

I don't know anybody who has been comped "year after year". Care to elaborate??

I don't think your "comping" days are over.

Whilst it is not normal I know a number of people who have been comp'ed Platinum a few years in a row. Some of them post (have posted) on AFF. I need to search for the relevant threads.

I think some people already take/factor in indirect routings and still fall short a few tens of SC's required for (re)qualification.

Anyway, re: soft landings, I am a Gold but will fall short by 460SC  when my renewal date of 30 June 2010  comes around. If I don't fly 4 qualifying QF segments, do I ease down to Silver OR do I head straight down to a nothing Bronze?

Who...us...take indirect routings.....no no, you have the wrong crowd here :D

My understanding is that QF have a soft landing process regardless of how you lose it (either lack or SC's, or no 4 qualifying flights, or both).

Unfortunately you need to get the required SCs or else. If you can't think of ways to get there then I really do not see the point in complaining.

As far as I am aware Qantas has soft landings regardless....

Well, QF have been generous to this little member:

Current Status: Gold
Status reassessment will occur: 28 Feb 2011
Many thanks QF. Now to repay your loyalty :D

Am currently about 100 SCs short of my target for renewal.

Have now been comp'd Plat until 2012. No contact from Qantas asking for plans etc, although I have lodged "missing flight" claims that will push me over renewal requirements.

I have a question of timimg.
Anniversary date is 28 Feb.
I'm relying on JL flights up to 28 Feb for sc's to make PS.
Should I advise QFF in advance or just sort it out after the anniversary date on my return in March.

QF will be able to sort it out without a call. When the SC's post they will update your status.
