I'm sure this has been covered somewhere but my searches have come up empty.
So how do the come up with e SC levels? The web site used to advise it in bands of miles flown but that seems to have dissapeared.
I fly red e deal 90% of the time so I know I get lowest credits BUT.
Brisbane to newcastle or sydney earns 10. Melbourne 15; Adelaide and Perth 20. How is that at all fair ? The longest flight in Australia earns 20 - one of the shortest = 10 .
In terms of dollars spent or FF points earnt there seems to be no equality

Isn't that how things were even before the changes to the system?

On a domestic flight, the whole SC level is still underpinned by distance bands. It is just that the distances are a bit different to what they used to be. I think it comes down to paying more attention than in the past, especially when your particular flights are impacted by the change.

According to the calculator, BNE -> ADL only earns 15 these days, and not 20.

I'm pretty sure it used to earn 20 before the simpler and fairer enhancements, but as mentioned by others, the distance bands have changed.

mrpooky.

Some bands were changed, but in general the status credit earn is similar. BNE/ADL is one that went from 20 to 15SC. And I think the minimum SC earn is 10, so some short flights get that.
But for example current sale fares are MEL/SYD $99, and MEL/PER $189. SC earn is 10 and 20. So I think it is fair.

Tony, please save yourself a lifetime of misery. Airline tickets/costs do not follow any mathematical equation. If the ¨discrepancy¨ you have identified causes you angst, you are lost.

If you do not understand and accept a concept such as ¨it is cheaper to fly from A to B and on to C, than just A to B¨, then you have no hope.

I hear you all, BTW my query was not specific to old or new system. Just a general observation. Having said that - agree with you Ric_melb. Same equation can be said for BNE to MEL and BNE to PER. Perhaps my survey of my recent flights was too narrowbut in recent month Ive earnt 10 points for several trips OOL to SYD to MEL at costs of around $92 per sector then had to pay $370 for BNE to PER for 20 points. Juddles - mate I hear you!!

Its not just a matter of being 'fair'. Its "Simpler and fairer" (TM) according to Qantas. ;)

Some bands were changed, but in general the status credit earn is similar. BNE/ADL is one that went from 20 to 15SC.

BNE-ADL was always 15, even before Simpler and Fairer. It's 1010 miles which fell into the 600-1200 miles bracket for 15 SCs.

Precisely. No change ADL-BNE. However, The 1200 mile cut off has now moved to about 1500, which might have reduced MEL-BNE. And 600 has moved to 750. Hence ADL/SYD dropping down to 10 SC.

No change to MEL-BNE apart from the points earn reducing as the minimum earn has reduced down to 800.
