How does Marriott treat you as an elite?

Speaking of NYE hotels in Sydney (and hopefully not to drag this thread too far OT) does anyone have recommendations for hotels to stay at in Sydney to see NYE? I’m the past I stayed the the Pier Autograph Collection near the Harbour view during NYE and had decent views, albeit I paid for the $200 catering package as well. I am guessing a hotel near the Harbour bridge is the best although I’d be curious whether something in Darling Harbour might make sense like the W or Sofitel.

I stayed at the Pier one back in 2021 and I just walked out 5 mins before the fireworks and saw them, there were like no crowds - probably covid and the international borders being closed helped

I'm not a MB elite and stayed on the regular and popular Luxury Escapes deal, but I can comment on the breakfast.

This place was the straw that broke the camel's back for me vis-a-vie hotel buffet breakfasts. It's too extensive! I know how a pokie addict might feel now as I have no self-control at such places and found myself having 2-hr sessions trying everything.

Terrific staff too. By the end of our stay, one staff member started to cook things just for me, carefully discussed and selected the day before. She even prepared a recipe booklet of my favourite dish ("yellow chicken curry"), hand-written, complete with hand-drawn pics.

So, like a pokie addict, I now self-exclude from hotels with buffets like this. Denial is difficult, a step towards depression even, made harder knowing how good it is. Coincidentally, I feel the same about Magnum ice-creams at the supermarket and turning left on an airplane. Sometimes I wish had never tried it.

They’re quite good at looking after you where they can there in Canberra. On my first stay there last year got the biggest room in the hotel.

Just as an FYI both Courtyard Marriott and Westin in Bali are doing renovations limiting elite upgrade chances. Westin did look after me well with a very late checkout to accommodate the QF flight back though.

Very impressed with the upgrade to a villa. Had read that they try upgrade Titaniums to a villa, and also read they don't upgrade anyone to a villa. Being on a redemption I was not holding my breath - very happy a few days prior to check in when I see I've been assigned the villa in the app. Staff fantastic. Didn't spend much time at the pool other than a swim after Sunday brunch at the restaurant there with some friends. Breakfast was a huge selection. Gym was OK but nothing special - they do have an ice bath if that's your thing (though it's in a completely different area to the sauna). Overall the pool at the villa was great and villa was very clean but definitely starting to look it's age in terms of wear and tear

My go to Marriott in Singapore as its right in Tanjong Pagar by the MRT and good restaurants and bars, and the rates are very competitive for Singapore. The rooms are on the small side but I don't spend much time in them. I've got a booking late October and for the first time in 2 years of staying here it's over SGD$300/night. Pool and gym nothing to write home about but they're there.

Club lounge is a roped off section of the resturant: evening you get a choice of 3x canapes and 3x drinks per person registered to the room (they're pretty hot on this so no friends coming to join you unless you add their ID in at reception), breakfast you can choose a coffee + juice + main + side dish from the breakfast menu which is very good - breakfast here is outrageously expensive so this is good value (could be close to SGD$100 if you paid out of pocket).

This felt like very good value - it's the old Intercontinental in Bugis. The room was spacious, and the staff were all very pleasant. Highly recommended, even if it is getting a little dated - I'm sure the rates will go up once the renovation is done

An oldie with two towers, hadn’t stayed for 4 years and it took a while to workout the entrance as it shares the lot with a few other towers and has pretty much zero signage. The twin towers proved an issue with a 10 minute trip in lifts to get to the club lounge, didn’t bother to return for drinks after high tea. In common with the Hilton down the road, the exec lounges are past their prime.

Overall not bad for the money paid but I won’t be returning anytime soon, better options elsewhere.

This property is colocated with a four points. Club lounge was nicely done and not busy, two 1.5 hour sittings and is located on the first floor with a view of the airport. Easy access with a shuttle bus from the nearby MRT.
