Thank you for the tip: I will avoid the Sofitel Thalassa hotel & Spa in Quiberon,
Have you tried the Sofitel in Marseille Vieux Port?
Just tripped over your post, esseeeayeenn.
Yes, we stayed at Sofitel Marseille Vieux Port in late 2024, for five nights.
They were in the midst of renovations at the time - much needed, I would say, as the unrenovated sections were looking a little unloved.
Our room was spacious, comfortable, well equipped and had a large balcony overlooking the water and the spectacular surrounds. The balcony was unrenovated and far from glamorous but a superb setting, and a great place for morning coffee or an evening drink.
We found the hotel's location to be great for our needs. Walkable to lots of places, and bus stops a few steps from the hotel for longer rides, with taxis readily available, and an amusing ferry service across the old port water.
Did not try their formal restaurant as there were heaps of non-hotel restaurants to try around town, but did have excellent drinks and bar snacks one evening, overlooking the harbour. One other evening, after a long day of walking, we opted for the easy option of a casual meal at their ground floor restaurant. Dreadful, on both the food and service levels! But could have been an aberration, I suppose.
Staff were generally friendly and helpful, and some went out of their way to add to a pleasant stay.
Loved the city, both its historic sites and the recent additions. Wonderful architecture and good museums and the like. We ventured to the end of several commuter bus lines, and saw the variety of the city's history and development.
Hope you enjoy it all, too.
