Highly recommending this based on location (being maybe 200m from Dotonbori bridge) and the room having a decent size fridge, washer/dryer combo, microwave and even an induction cooker and pots! The bathtub was also huge for this grade of property.

We were going to stay at the nearby Swissotel, but that was going to ask an extra $200 per night, and we knew we'd use the washing machine here.

The breakfast selection was very good for a Mercure, although the dining area wasn't big enough and there was a queue already when we vacated around 7:45am. Drip coffee only at breakfast, but there was a Nespresso machine in the room.

Negatives - no upgrade, the bathroom basin area is in the room, the bar has limited opening hours so didn't have a chance to use our drink vouchers, and the view was from floor 17 or 18. Much lower in the building and you'd be staring at a concrete wall.

I've been keen to give this one a go one day but it's a bit awkwardly located from the stations. Quite a central spot for shopping and food though, i'll give it that

Property: Sofitel Sydney Wentworth
Status: Accor+ Platinum
Room booked: Superior room (base room)
Room upgraded/type: Luxury room
Rate: Used Stay Plus $340 for two nights.
Early check in/late out: Not required.
Free internet: Yes
Free breakfast: Yes - in lounge or Delta Rue
Welcome drink: Yes in app - could redeem at Wentworth bar; I used it for a strawberry yuzu spritz
Welcome amenity: Yes - Legacy shiraz and chocolates with option to skip for 300 points. Went with the amenity as free plonk is always welcome at work office drinks.
Recommend: If you have lounge access and don't mind the shower arrangement in lesser rooms, yes. I'll try Darling Harbour next time though I think.

Yes, it's another Sofitel Wentworth review.

I was up for two nights over the weekend for the footy.

The bed was comfortable but the pillows lacked support. There was also a little noise from the traffic nearby, but it wasn't too bad. The big issue though was the shower, which was above a very deep tub more than a shallow shub. This made access very awkward and means that unfortunately, I won't be back given my balance is rubbish. Water pressure was a little weak too.

Breakfast in Delta Rue was good (but bedlam on the first morning due to a half marathon being on). A good choice of cooked eggs, waffles and pancakes were available, along with barista coffee and a wide range of other stuff.

The afternoon tea and evening coughtails were also a cut above with excellent afternoon tea (which I was allowed to avail myself of after checking out too - so props to them), while the evening drinks were basically a meal in themselves with a top notch carvery.

It's a sub 10 min walk to Namba, Shinsaibashi and Yotsubashi ?

This area is far more interesting than Shin-osaka and Umeda, if those were the stations you're referring to.

I'm booked into the Swissotel in Osaka in August so it'll be interesting to compare to the Mercure.

Main reasons to choose the Swissotel were that it had a lounge (given Osaka's so hot in August, having somewhere nice to retreat in the afternoon after heading out in the morning will be important) and that getting to Kyoto/Mount Kurama and Nara will be easy I hope given that Namba station's right below it.

I agree with you on most points. I think the bathroom have also been renovated. I guess being constraint by size, there's not much they can do when they want to keep the bath. The tiles, vanity and mirror set up are new I'm quite sure.
Those bathrooms have definitely not been renovated since our previous visit in 2017. Tiles, fixtures and shubs are all unchanged.
