Free internet: Yes, but difficult to sign in.
Free breakfast: Yes at Executive Lounge
Welcome drink: A large selection of tea, juices and alcoholic options @ The Flow in the lobby
Welcome amenity: Yes, fruits
Recommend: Yes. Very central and convenient location. Metro lines 2, 7, 14 exit just outside. 20 minute walk to nice shopping at Taikoo Hui.

Comments: First time in Shanghai. 7am check in, roller bed arrived 9.30am. Welcome amenity sent up at 6pm. The room is expansive but all drawers are empty aside from slippers. Toiletries available on request. The executive lounge is two floors below on the 27th and can be reached from a glass staircase. I believe only floors 23-29 have this staircase. Staff at the hotel are great, but english proficiency is hit or miss.

Negatives: Tried to send a letter back to Melbourne using the hotel’s letterhead and envelope provided in the room. Went to the Executive Lounge, was sent to the front desk, then on to the concierge. The concierge advised that since it was 7 pm and the post office was closed, I’d need to come back the next day. When I asked if I could leave it with them and have the cost charged to my room, I was told that wasn’t possible, as it was not a hotel service, but rather someone from the concierge going to the post office to send my letter.

I don’t mind posting it myself, but if a hotel provides stationery with envelopes, I’d expect they have a process for handling outgoing mail. The next morning, it still seemed unclear how to manage it or charge me for the service. In the end, I left the letter and 100 RMB with them and asked to have the change returned later that evening. When I came back that night, the concierge handed me back the exact change in an envelope, no service fee charged.

Member wifi sign-in uses Accor registered phone number and 2fa code, not email/username. Had issues with my +61 number, ended up making an Accor account with my Chinese number to use high-speed wifi. Regular room wifi is 25Mbps, high-speed is 100Mbps.

Bathroom floor isn't angled. Standing water pooled up overnight.

Maybe I am getting old but none of the staff at this hotel look older than 25! Nevertheless good customer service. Rooms have electric window blinds and motion sensitive lighting. Lifts (very prompt) require swiping your room card and then entering your floor on a number pad as there are no floor buttons inside the lift. Good CBD location one block off Swanston St.

I just booked a stay at the Fairmont Royal York in Toronto for this January (booked a luxury room and applied my SNUs to get to a Luxury King Suite). Has anyone stayed at this property? Keen to learn whether it is worth the hype.

Checked out in a hurry and only just had the time to check the invoice. It appears they waived the $60/night rollaway bed charge quoted during check in. Lovely.

Meanwhile sometimes in Oceania some places will happily charge me $3 for laundromat.
