We decided to start a family holiday in a more popular area. We were going with another family so this suited all of us.

I got contacted a few days prior to advise of arrival time. Very smooth check in with a welcome drink at check in. We got upgraded which was certainly a nice touch. Had a small arrival present of nuts, fruit and a mini cake

The hallway certainly gets noisy with people coming back. We were at the end of the hallway and still heard a fair bit. As we got to the room quite late we were so tired that we crashed.

The room was totally fine. Comfy bed. Our suite had 2 balconies and our living room was huge! Even bigger than the actual bedroom.

We went to the breakfast buffet the next day. The buffet quality was very good with variety. Good value with the Accor plus membership as kids go free.

We redeemed vouchers near the pool. All coughtails, mocktails and beers were included. Surprisingly wines weren’t.

Kids club was quite average but staff were super friendly and with some activities that made things easier. I have found the service overall has been really solid.

In all, it does the trick with all things you would want of out a holiday with the family and is perfectly acceptable.

I am appreciative that there are a lot of mixed reviews for this hotel since the pandemic.

I cannot fault things so far.

Our check in was smooth and quick; and my Accor preferences (high floor, away from lifts) were well in touch. Room 1510 is about as far as you can get from the lift. Quite literally.

We went around the room with a fine tooth comb. Here's our complaint: the TV needs to be updated. I couldn't load Netflix, nor could I easily connect my MacBook Air. REALLY? How is that even a sane complaint? It's not.

Breakfast on the first morning was a dream. The world's friendliest chef in charge of the kitchen: I dare not go past without ordering an omelette. Didn't want to upset him. He had to dart off to take care of something and a colleague of his came in to make my omelette. It was lovely - and we had a little bit of chat (him being a face mask). I never - ever - have an omelette in a hotel for breakfast. This was super lovely. So much so, I walked over after to say thank you to the gentleman. He looked a bit stunned, but said thank you. Fifteen minutes later, he came over and had a lovely chat with my wife and I - my hearing's not great, and I had some issues understanding him through his mask, but it was just so nice to have a little chit chat, and to pass on a sincere compliment.

The Kaya Croissant this morning, bloody hell.

As for the lounge - we've had some solid eating in there; real wok hei on the noodles, and tonight's little chocolate banana mousse desserts were gorgeous. Great cheeses (carried over from the breakfast - I am pretty sure, but why waste food?) and salads there as well.

Barnabas, Kem, and Yaini have looked after us super well in the lounge so far. They're commendable.

Wife decided (after a measly 6 hour trek around the botanical gardens this morning) to spend the afternoon in the bath. And I decided to spend it drinking coughtails and playing video games in the bar in the lobby, 1864. Super friendly staff and a couple of us ended up chatting about video games and nerding it up when the wives aren't around.

Little tip: the gorgeous cakes at the tea/cake counter in 1864 are 50% off after 5pm. I resisted today... And only shall tomorrow because I'll be at MBS destroying my credit card for the birthday girl. But one for the back pocket.

Seriously. Cannot recommend this place highly enough. Top banana, as I would say.

Another very nice stay at Hotel St Moritz in Queenstown, at the tail end of the NSW school holiday period. Friendly and attentive service throughout the stay, from all the staff that we encountered. My young son particularly liked the staff at reception as they were very interactive with him, offering tours and treats and answering all his questions about how things worked at the hotel :D

We had dinner on the first night at Lombardi restaurant in the hotel, an Italian style bistro, with woodfired pizzas and a number of quality mains. A very nice meal, and the Accor Plus discount worked as it should, with 50% off for my wife and I, while my boy ate from the cheaper kids menu.

Breakfast (also in Lombardi) was included for all in the room as a Platinum member, and saved us ~$20 per person each day. Breakfast fare is pretty basic, but of quite a good quality. You can order eggs or pancakes as you want them, but otherwise a range of hot buffet items, some breads and pastries, and some fruit, muesli/cereal and juices. Nothing much in the way of cold cuts and salad items - maybe just some smoked salmon. They could have done with some grilled tomatoes or something to go with the other hot stuff (hash browns, sausages, bacon, beans, mushrooms and a house bean cassoulet... which was pretty tasty).

Parking is available on-site, but gets very busy as the sun goes down and people arrive back from the mountains. Parking is $30 per night (that's the already discounted rate for ALL members), and they will valet or look after the car if the lot is full when you need a space. I only needed to do that one time.

Only irritation with this visit - which is outside of the hotel's control - is that there is a sizeable build going on down the bottom of the hill on the cnr of Brunswick St, and it means that pedestrians need to walk down the opposite side of the road behind some traffic cones. The road is not at all lit over there, and so in the evening and after any rain or frost, it gets a bit dicey walking down & back up this rather steep hill.

Now firmly locked in as our annual winter getaway - we'll be back again in 2026.

Cheers,
Matt.

p.s. This stay also puts me within spitting distance of Accor+ Diamond, which I'll sort out next month when I do a status run to capture the last of my QFF WP SCs for the year.
