So I’d originally booked the Harbour Rocks Hotel Syd using my Stay plus night. Being a Saturday night and CNY, where pretty fortunate to have found a room in the Rocks area. And leaving on a cruise the next day, being the reason for choosing that area. Fast forward to early January, it was announced that the Harbour rocks were leaving the Accor group and any booking using points towards payment wouldn’t be honoured. Since I hadn’t used any points and my booking showed a zero $ owing on the stay I contacted Accor + and the best they could do was cancel and return the stay plus night or an Ibis in the city. Yeah, nah. I ended up sending emails to the All Australia and pacific Co, CEO etc. I had 1 email reply from the Sarah Derry’s assistant saying they had successfully moved my booking to the Sebel. So happy with outcome.

The hotel is nice, and the view from the observation deck is great.

Having disembarked our cruise , we made away around the dock to the hotel. Being 9ish, we weren’t expecting our room to be ready, as we were just wanting to drop our bags off and head to the zoo.
We returned back around 1ish and handed the room key, but headed straight to lunch first.
We had been upgraded and wow, what a stunning view and apartment.

Arrived late to a very tired looking hotel - the restaurant closes early and the only place open near by was Macca's.

The room is OK - large enough and the bed is comfortable.

Shower and bath tub - the shower is complete rubbish however.

Breakfast was pretty poor with most hot food items empty - and little effort made to top them up.

One and done.

Apparently the new Novotel is the one to book.

There's actually two Mercures within 100m of each other.

The new Novotel would be better for sure. One side looks right onto the apartment building next door though. As a bonus, Miss Mi is there which is amazing food made better with the Accor+ discount.

Booked one night on a mini holiday/status run. Base rooms were $210 or thereabouts so $264 for a suite felt like a good deal. I also got a NOR1 email a couple of days before the stay pushing an upgrade to a presidential suite for around $100 more.

Check in was a breeze, I asked how the renovations were going. The desk agent mentioned they renovated levels 3-11 during covid, but there was no indication from the owner whether they would continue to renovate levels 12-16.

Was assigned a room on the corner of the top floor which had a good view over the hotel pool and city.

Room was huge but quite dated.

Redeemed a digital welcome drink voucher at Coco's - Plat unlocks a couple of beers and better spirits, Diamonds get some Spritz options.

DrinkMenuCombined.jpg

Breakfast at Coco's was decent. The usual hot western options, good bakery spread (inc gluten free options), egg station, cold cuts, basic salads, Japanese veg curry, and Nespresso coffee. Used the second drink voucher for a barista made cappuccino which was pretty good.

Overall good value for money and good status recognition, would stay again but might book a renovated room category. The hallway carpets on the non-renovated floors are really in need of replacement - lots of fraying, stains, etc.

One night stay on a work trip. I usually opt for the Sebel, but Peppers is rarely this cheap so I thought I'd give it a go after a few years, my last visit was as a Gold.

Pleasantly surprised to hear they could check me in at 11:30am. The front desk apologised for not having an upgrade available, but the room was actually a one-category upgrade.

Breakfast buffet was very basic, but hot items could be ordered a la carte. Barista coffee was good. Would stay again at this price.

Currently day 2 of a 3 night stay. Really great location, good amenities and restaurants. Had a friend in a separate room and it was nice that free drink and executive lounge access was extended to her. Free voucher also included coughtails which was great.

Rooftop bar, pool and gym were great. Has a spa onsite and kids club. Would certainly stay here again.

Room upgrade is just a higher floor and gives you access to the quite excellent Virgin Active gym (easy access to). Initially a bit miffed by no welcome amenity. Not even the usual chocolate. I wasn't fussed by the lack of wine I wouldn't drink.

I went to the exec lounge on level 6 to find it not there. It's not a bar/funky restaurant. Location is now on level 5. I'd say an improvement on food and drink offerings but not as good a location. Laurent Perrier champagne on offer was a welcome addition. However, the views of the pool and ability to sit outside were better in the old lounge. Had a little discussion with one of the staff about this.

When I came back from dinner on night two, there was a a gift and a lovely note from the lady I was chatting to. Gift was a thermos style water bottle. There were other small things that made this an excellent stay. The room had four different nespresso capsules. Whichever one I used, they would give an extra one of those when the room was made up. They still use the annoying toothpaste in a cardboard packet which is really only one use (kinda silly as most of us brush our teeth twice a day). So I opened both toothbrush sets. Housekeeping obviously figured out what was going on and left a larger toothpaste subsequent mornings.

Breakfast is also now served in the lounge again (it wasn't 12 months ago).

I really love the pool area. It's never busy and just a great spot to unwind for a while after work.

Finally, not just this hotel, but they have the pump amenities in the shower. However, they also have a bath, but no amenities available to use if you use the bath. Rather silly. Not sure what they expect you to do if you are a bath person?!

One of my regular when in Brisbane - they really only have 2 room types a 1 or 2 Bed Apartment or an Studio.

Restaurant (Crofts) is OK - breakfast is not a buffet, and consists of a coffee, a juice and and one breakfast item.

Orange juice is clearly made up rather than fresh and was watery, but the breakfast food was reasonable.

Would not hesitate to stay again at that price.

Needed an overnight room for a layover. Easy free shuttle to and from airport. Arrived late and checked out early so didn't see any of the facilities.
Executive room upgrade was pretty meaningless as the lounge was closed when I arrived and they made a point of highlighting lounge access wasn't included in my upgrade.
Firmest mattress I've had yet - could have slept on the floor.
Given its the only accor option I probably would stay there again...

This trip I got some real mileage out of my apec card. 45 minute queue at SGN departures immigration was completely skipped, but my highlight was pulling up the gate in TPE at 8 minutes past 8 and making the 20 past 8 hotel shuttle. Door to ride in 12 minutes at an overseas international airport has to be close to PB for me...

Welcome drink: Yes - very generous! Any drink at like 4 bars for up to $39 per drink. We went to Skai bar on top floor for coughtails.
Welcome gift: Plate of fruit - 1 each of nashi, mandarin, orange, granny smith and red apples.

Decidedly not 5-star beginning - the foyer is incredibly noisy and confusing with a bank of 'check yourself in' computers - none of which would comprehend 2 rooms in one booking. One room had a problem with the air con dripping which was promptly fixed.

Also definite downside - motion activated lights everywhere, which includes when you roll over in bed! Incredibly annoying.

3x nespresso pods per day but that includes 1 decaf so really only 2.

Excellent value. Silver or base ALL gets you a juice, gold includes beer, diamond and platinum bubbles or sake. Location was excellent. Can use the dining discount for 1000 yen breakfast (we did not partake). Best part was onsen which had (GASP) free ice cream! Washing machines were 300yen. USB points beside the bed, INCUDING USB C! Overall excellent stay.

My trick for these was to lean one of the turndown slippers over the sensors next to the bed head ;) You can also turn off the night light completely, but I like it to work when heading to the bathroom

Was in Sydney last weekend for the SailGP. Happened to be the same weekend as Taylor swift so everywhere was silly pricing. I was bouncing around my bookings as prices rapidly fluctuated - I even saw the Sofitel for this basic room get as high as 1.9k for the night. Finally settled on the Sofitel when a hot rooms offer came through about 2 days out.

The room itself was nice and while no stated upgrade, I might have got a slightly better view towards the city vs my Jones bay booking. Welcome drinks had to be prompted which was disappointing for a Sofitel. Nothing else really stood out on this stay and I'd likely book something more in the CBD again.

So looking for a hotel in Darwin (not at the airport) seems to only be 3 shubless options: Mantra Pandanus, Hilton and Hilton Garden Suites - any recent experience at Mantra Pandanus?

I've rules out Novotel due to the shub situation.
