How does Accor treat you as an Elite guest?

A couple of little solo stops in NZ recently. First time after joining plus, unfortunately everybody at Ellerslie knew the discount percentage on food but nobody seemed to know how to get it to apply.

Room upgraded/type: No better room. But got a good view compared to colleagues.

Status: Accor+ Gold
Room booked: Superior King
Room upgraded/type: No, was booked last minute and very full so not expected
Free internet: Yes
Welcome drink: drink voucher - exchange for beer/wine/sparkling only.
Welcome gift: 3 macarons, 2 bottles water, and hand written note delivered to room after check in.
-No acknowledgement of membership on check in until I asked if my card was on file (due to issues I've had since joining plus). When she said yes Accor+ Gold the manager ran out and greeted me and walked me around the lobby showing me where everything was. He was a really lovely guy.

Room booked: Tamar river room (wasnt prepared to pay an extra $100 a night for a Silo room)
Room upgraded/type: No better room. But was given 8th (top) floor end room, so had both the carpark/bunnings/river view and a view over the city.
Rate: Accor Plus - Flexible Rate room only
Free internet: Yes
Early/Late Checkout: Checked in at 12:40pm (usual check-in time is 2pm), late check-out not needed
Welcome drink: two drink vouchers (any beer, or any wine by the glass or softdrink coffee). Used them on two different glasses of wne valued at $17/glass.
Welcome gift: 1 bottle of sparkling wine, 2 house made chocolate truffles and a welcome card (but no bottled water)

Long weekend in Launceston for my Birthday. Arrived about 90mins before check-in but was given a room straight away.

Spacious room, comfy bed, decent storage/hanging space, easily accessible powerpoints, a desk, tv with foxtel (least responsive remote control ever), great shower, large fluffy bath sheets . No coffee machine if that is important to you. Onlyreal complaint is that you coulndt reach the master light switch from the bed and no free bottled water.

When I cam back from lunch Welcome gift had been delivered, as gold dont usually score wine, maybe it was because they knew it was my Birthday.




Accor p;us dining discount honoured at Silo cafe (on takeaway coffee), Woody's bar (bar snacks) and Grain of the Silos restauant. Do not bother with breakfast (expensive and tny servings), many better places to eat in town (i hughly recommend Bread & Butter), but the coffee shop does an ok Toby's estate coffee. Bar snacks (i had scallops and ribs) were tasty enough, and my dinner at Grain was nice and good value after factoring in that the glass of wine was free and the + discount.

Hotel has a black labrador called Archie who has his own business card and loves attention, we hit it off and I even took him for a walk.

Turn down services left tea (i didnt try it) and lavendar spray (i find lavendar to be an irritant so binned it)

Location is very quiet although the park next door is very populr with locals and was packed on Saturday arvo with kids playing and parents BBQíng. About a 10-20 minute walk into CBD depending where you are headed.

Bonus points posted to Qantas within 2 days.

Archie was there when I stayed maybe 5 years ago and he wasn't a pup then ( if it's the same Archie!)

I just Googled the place to see were my room was when I stayed ( it overlooked the bar patio and was incredibly noisy) and found this - Launceston can be a bit behind the times

Yeah Archie is a senior citizen, he was mostly sleeping in his bed or behind reception counter. Our walk was very slow and only from hotel around the outside of Riverbend Park (park doesnt allow dogs). Lower floors may have been noisier, but i5 super quiet on 8th Floor.

Sebel hasn't had a renovation or any love since I last stayed here 10years ago. Staff seemed very frazzled and quite a wait (5mins) to even see one when we arrived at the property, let alone the hostile "have you paid for any early check-in." Breakfast at the attached cafe was much of the same. Probably will give it a miss next time in Brisbane even though the rate was cheap (~$200)

Originally booked the ibis Hamburg Flughafgen as I had a morning flight out of Hamburg for Zurich. About a month prior to checking in the hotel emailed me saying the hotel remains closed and offering to rebook me at the nearby ibis Hamburg Alstering for no additional cost (which I accepted). I got to the hotel at 4 PM (check in starts at 3 PM), and the agent struggled to find a room for me (apparently their room assignment and security system was down). What ended up happening was 30 minutes of pure comedy with the agent escorting me across different floors looking for a room that wasn't in use. Eventually we found one on the 5th floor and later when the system was back up and running I was able to get my key card. No free breakfast since it's an Accor hotel in Europe and I'm merely a lowly Platinum member but I reckon it wouldn't matter since I had a morning flight and was gonna grab something at the lounges anyway.

If you've been to an ibis hotel in Europe there's really nothing to write home about here other than to say it is starting to get dated:





I ended up using the drink voucher later that night (around 9:30 PM) for a beer:


Would I stay here again? Yes if the price is right (60 Euros arguably was too much, but if it gotten into the 40 Euros mark, it could be a good value).

Yes but the real question is whether it is as tired as the Hobart QF lounge? Looking at the pics it doesn't look as tired as some Accor properties I've been to in Europe (i.e. the ibis Hamburg Alsterring reviewed above). And I would certainly argue that the bathroom whilst not VIP certainly exceeds the standards for what passes as a restroom in QF domestic lounges!

My first foray into Accor! We needed a place to stay down the Gold Coast and this place was more than $100 cheaper than the majority. No problem for us not being near a beach (I used to live on the coast, done way too much Cav av time, didn't feel the urge to go back!). We HATE golf but it was vaguely entertaining having a view over a water trap - certainly some colourful language was heard.

Used the free drink vouchers at dinner (glass of sav blanc) and made use of the 50% discount - meaning 2 glasses of wine, arancini balls, salt and pepper squid and a steak main came out to $34. Bargain!

There was a bottle of wine in the fridge along with 2 bottles of water - reading the replies here I'm starting to suspect that might have been another welcome gift. Doh! I assumed it was just paid minibar.

Been a little while since we have stayed here as the Sofitel is our usual go to but we had a birthday function in the East End so decided to book a night. The service and staff were absolutely amazing and the status recognition was superb. Booked on a el-cheapo Red hot room rate of $186 and were informed on check in that as valued Diamond members we had been upgraded to a Junior Suite with Park view. I’m not sure on what metric they call it a suite but the room was adequate size and was comfortable. The suite was going for $522 per night so it was a 4 category room upgrade by my estimation.
Room had a balcony and large windows offering decent views. Nespresso machine and work desk came in handy. Bed was comfortable and the air conditioning worked exceptionally well.
Nice plate of chocolates and bottle of wine with hand written thank you note.
Used our drink vouchers at the bar and then headed to the EL at 5pm for drinks and canapés. As most would know it’s not a huge lounge but more than enough seats and comfortable enough but the staff were absolutely superb. Wines were topped up constantly and as well as a small buffet staff also wandered around the room with plates of chicken skewers and other assorted dishes. The lounge has all day access and is a quite place to get some work done and you can grab a beer or soft drink as you please and often guests would come in and grab a drink from the fridge.
Breakfast was in the restaurant and looked a decent enough buffet but it was a tad busy so I went to the EL which was peaceful and has a small breakfast buffet with a small a la carte menu. I was the only one in there at the time and staff were amazing again and enjoyed the barista coffee and freshly cooked bacon. Took the valet parking option and advised that it was $47 per night but on checkout the manager advised us that they had waived the fee for us as Diamonds. Hotel got very busy in the evening as a Scoot flight was diverted to ADL and the Pullman ended up with two bus loads of passengers.
All up an excellent stay and we will definitely stay there more frequently again.

As Diamond status we have EL access regardless of room type so I don’t exactly know which rooms come with it but I think it’s the Suites only but others might know

Couple things. I wouldn't necessarily consider $282/night a good rate (then again I'm a real cheapskate and for me anything more than $200 is blasphemy). Second and to your point, I would say be flexible with where and when you want to stay. I have now made several bookings at various Accor hotels in Sydney CBD that are in the $100/night range (and no they aren't all ibis properties either). If you can book several months in advance that can be good, sometimes you can find last minute deals too (i.e. ibis Barangaroo for $115/night booked the day of)

In terms of Accor+ rates specifically, well you need to look at what the current offers are which Accor has a webpage showing you this. At the time of writing there are over 100 hotel room offers we have as an Accor+ member with 48 offers specifically for Australian properties. Looking at the offers, one hotel I've stayed earlier this month that I really enjoyed at catches my eye:

As you can see booking into August one could get the Red Hot Room rate.
