Hi guys,

For the life of me I'm trying to work out in the Velocity website how many points + taxes I would need to fly Melbourne to Milan on some dates, more so out of curiosity.

Can someone please point me in the right direction of how to do this?

Thank you

Thank you Notzac, very much appreciated. Is there any way I can search that myself online so I can see schedules, airlines etc?

That's certainly a lot better than Qantas which on the same route is around 140k points for a Y seat return but Taxes are astronomical at around $800 which renders the program useless in my opinion as you can get good early bird seats on that route with top airlines for around $1500 when you lookout.

I should point out that those are one way prices - so you're looking at 125k points and $202.74 in taxes for return in Y (still, much cheaper than QF for the taxes - it's because VA don't charge fuel surcharges for redemptions, whereas QF do).

It took some mucking around on VA's useless website .. I think I started by looking for MEL-FCO and then modified the search to MEL-MXP. Heaps of availability too!

Thanks Notzac - agree their site is terrible. Have tried playing with it even MEL - FCO but all dates are Sold Out. Not to worry, it was more out of curiosity anyway and you've answered my query so thanks for that anyway. Cheers

Sometimes the VA website can show seats sold out to FCO and there will still be seats available! I always double check using this link:

Book flights with Etihad Guest Miles

If you find "guest seats" you may be able to book them on the phone with VA.

Re: How do you search for MEL-MXP flights to work out how many points + taxes are nee

MEL-MXP in J is 125000 points and $101.37 in taxes

Out of curiosity, how do you come to that figure? I always thought rewards were based on the sector cost of each flight. Ie, for Y MEL(SYD)-AUH is 47,000 + AUH-MXP is 23,900 for a total of 70,900.

Clearly I've been doing something wrong.

If you price it per sector, that's indeed the figures you get. The ticket can be "sold" all the way through from MEL-MXP; as such it falls in to the 9,501-15,000 price band. To more specifically answer your question, I got the points and tax figure from the VA website (after convincing it that it was possible to price MEL-MXP).
