How do "last flight" crew get home?

With world aviation all but shutting down, how do crew get home? I assume they just go straight back as pax on the plane they've arrived on.

I’m not sure what you mean. Says on ABC news website flight crews are exempt from 14 day quarantine. So they would have their required rest then return to home country or state. If they’re not taking passengers, the crew can still position onboard a flight or ferry aircraft back to their home port. As at last week (not sure of any update) even a regular Joe requiring the 14 days could say land in Brisbane from overseas then take a domestic flight immediately afterward to Sydney (or wherever) to get them home. THEN go into isolation.

Today I saw some tweets from an AirNZ pilot flying what he seemed to suggest was the last LAX to LHR flight today. I assume that plane was returning to LAX within next 12-24 hours, so he couldn't have flown it back (but maybe AirNZ have pilots based in UK??)

Any crew that arrived that day or the day before and are subject to mandatory rest periods can still come back home as passengers.

I’m not sure what you mean.

Just say crew who flies SYD-SCL normally would hang around for a couple of days before returning. Presumably now they will have to get straight back on the plane 2 hrs later to pax home.

Naturally given the circumstances EBA provisions cannot be met around rest. If it is the last flight in, the crew will return on the outbound flight as passengers. For some crew it will mean an immediate turn around and a continuous tour of duty. Others where our aircraft wait until the evening to depart, may get rest in a hotel before returning (In particular LAX). This happened with PVG and PEK flights.

Won't passenger aircraft only be used for domestic freight flights? Are you suggesting TransTasman and other international routes as well?

Think there will have to be.
QFs international aircraft and othera uplift a lot of freight as well. Only so many dedicated freighters around. Would expect QF will have to run passenger aircraft just for the freight
(Obviously this will likely mean shipping costs increase for some products)
