Just thought I'd create a thread for this - looking back over the last year, I thought I'd done a thread here as well as on Priority Club.

I'm a Gold member.

Got some more travel to do to Melbourne this Friday, so hoping to fly down Thursday night to sample the new Hilton.

Do upgrades at HSW normally show the day before checkin? Or are they only done at the actual time of checkin?

FYI this was showing 2 days ago, thought it must be a mistake :!: Very unusual

Bummer - I guess I'm not getting an upgrade tomorrow then!
I have had upgrades at HSW appear on the booking overnight during the night before checkin so I would say all is not lost until the day of checkin.

seems that giving my wife my macquarie card to pay for her last stay was wrong and i cant do that and thus im rorting the system

So when Mrs C keeps telling me that whats hers is hers and whats mine is hers shes actually wrong???? ( but i wont tell her that!)

I think the official line when it comes to CCs is the card and PIN is yours and yours alone unless there is a spouse secondary card attached to the account. My +1 asked about whether or not she can use my PP card. I personally, have no idea. (in fact I might go and search that question now).

Alas, it was not to be.

Hotel - HSW
Dates - 9-10th August 2013
Booked Hilton King City view
Received Hilton King City view
Rate $244

Received the welcome letter and 2 bottles of water as well as breakfast.
Nice lounge, great wine (!). More modern than HOTP, but I'm not really feeling the vibe at this hotel. Seems quite 'cold' and lacks ambience.
Also not a fan of the location.

Property: Hilton Sydney
Date: 10-11th Aug
Booked: Relaxation Room
Received: King Suite
Rate:$575 Govt

Here in the Exec Lounge now. It is a zoo in comparison to the last couple of nights at HSW.
Very efficient and warm check-in. Advised of Diamond benefits and room upgrade. I enquired as to whether it was a King Junior but was advised no ( I would have declined a King Junior as I think that's a bit of a downgrade from Relaxation).
Water in room, no specific Diamond amenity. It appears that this has been "enhanced" as my last three stays have had nothing other than water.
On the upside the teen is impressed with the "massive party room" ;)

Property: Mexico City Reforma
Date: 04 - 05 AUG
Booked: King Bed
Received: Executive Room
Rate: USD 155

This is a fantastic well positioned property with impeccable service qualities & stylishly furnished throughout.
Upon arrival the concierge was very attentive & was whisked up to the executive lounge reception & immediately given the choice of any welcome drink whilst checking in at leisure.
The lovely room on high floor with a divine view of the surrounding city was pre-allocated & they graciously thanked & appreciated my loyalty toward Hilton.
Welcome letter outlining features, H2O etc.
The EL lounge is very spacious, zoned for dining, lounging or quite areas with a large bar with full service & provides wonderful & extensive offerings of canapes & drink options for evening & also for breakfast with a gorgeous panoramic outlook over the best part of MEX city.
The concierge service executed on my departure was articulate & sincere in sourcing a suitable & comfortable hotel car for my obscure itinerary.
Overall a wonderful & memorable short stay.

After the two previous hotel stays in other lovely grand establishments in Mexico City prior, the Hilton Reforma was a distinct welcomed reprise.
I shall endeavour to compile a TR of this & others shortly.

Property: The Caledonian Waldorf Astoria Edinburgh
Date: 8-12th Aug
Booked: King
Received: Junior Suite
Rate:51K points per night. Old rate.

Loved the hotel. Generally good service by almost entirely Eastern European staff. Arrived just prior to check-in time at 3.00pm and room was not ready. Given coffee etc in the bar and extra drinks vouchers. Diamond benefit appeared to be one house wine drink voucher. Upgraded room was very large and well set up. Excellent bathroom. Didn't have the preferred view of the Castle as we were on the wrong side but still a very good one across the city and Leith to the Firth of Forth. Room had a nespresso machine. No included breakfasts as a W=A but the buffet in the Galvin Brasserie was excellent. It was pricey however at 17.50 pounds cold or $20.00 full breakfast but the quality and range justified the price. I've now had enough haggis and black pudding to keep me going for the rest of my life. We also had an early dinner in the Brasserie prior to the Tattoo and it was very good too. In fact the best meal we had in Edinburgh. It is excellently located at the end of Princes Street and is a 15 minute walk from Waverley Station. Fast but frustrating wifi connection with the need to re-log in repeatedly. All up, a very good experience in a classic hotel.

BAR ~$450/night after tax in aud, or something.
Booked Garden King
Received Ocean View Suite
Also- standard monkey and you turtle. 6 bottles on water in room. Plate of fruit, basket of petal, candles and bath salts with a 'congratulations' monkey.
Also greeting on arrival from manager and assistant manager and escort to room.

Will post full review later, but extremely happy with my last minute booking at Conrad Bali. Booked on Sunday night as a spontaneous weekend away for 2 nights.
This room is top floor, has a jacuzzi, is massive. It's not a conrad suite because they were sold out, they told me on checkin.

Also lounge has improved it's offering since last amazing visit. Not self serve food and wine/beers with a large coughtail menu. I really love this hotel, esp with a decent great getaway rate.

I have always seen it as a business hotel

I've got the feeling I'm going to feel very foolish for asking this, but what's a "standard monkey and you turtle"? I'm envisaging a woollen turtle-neck jumper with a monkey on the front, but not really suitable Bali attire? Please help!
