Just thought I'd create a thread for this - looking back over the last year, I thought I'd done a thread here as well as on Priority Club.

I'm a Gold member.

Friday, 22 May to Sunday, 31 May (yes, 9 nights)

Rate: Travelzoo $135 package rate (included bottle of red wine)
Received: Upgrade to King Suite, card from GM and the wine, obligatory 2 free water bottles per day

Wednesday, 8 July

Rate: Award room
Received: Upgrade to King Suite, card from GM and the obligatory 2 free water bottles

Rate: Met Package (birthday present for Mrs LW, included 2 buffet breakfasts at Atrium Cafe & 2 tickets to Qld Art Gallery for Impressionists Showing from Metropolitan Museum New York - to get some culture)
Received: Upgrade to Exec Floor, card from GM and the obligatory 2 free water bottles

Got some more travel to do to Melbourne this Friday, so hoping to fly down Thursday night to sample the new Hilton.

Can't have baked beans without upcharge?

Just had breakfast in the parmelia executive lounge. Very nice selection of fruits, yoghurt, Camembert, smoked salmon , cold cuts, 5 hot dishes and I heard someone request as additional poached eggs which wasn't a problem for staff. No baked beans but bearing in mind the poached eggs request was agreed I think it could have been ok. Thought it was very well catered and serviced. Ditto the previous evening.

Hotel is 100% full this weekend. We were told there is some sport happening. But I am always happy with the room I book. 6th floor at the back so nice and quiet.

Large bottle of water, bottle of red wine and a plate of little cakes in our room. Also a nice welcome card.

Is it a $10 upgrade to full breakfast or $10 regardless?

For Golds they wouldn't normally be entitled to eat breakfast in the lounge, so would have thought they could still get continental from the restaurant for free (as could Diamonds if they choose not to use the lounge).

As much as people like to complain about upgrade fees, the benefit was always only continental breakfast. That's why I'm a fan of the new US system, as I wouldn't pay $15-18pp on a continental breakfast. I'd rather choose how to spend that elsewhere in the hotel.

Sounded like $10 regardless - I was in a rush and the staff member seemed a bit confused herself.
Anyhow, my 2 cents as mentioned before. Trying to limit the free breakfast to certain items, which is near impossible to police anyways, just feels petty. I'm spending 50+ nights in your hotel and you draw the line at the occasional egg for breakfast which costs you a few cents. I can sort of understand that if you offer breakfast at the lounge, you want people to use it. Fair enough.

Was given HH WiFi password that doesn't work am using slower guest WiFi. $15 f&b credit which I plan to use for coffee tomorrow.

Comfy bed, deccent water pressure and good aircon which is appreciated as its 40C outside even at 10pm.

You should never (in the US) need the password they provide at check in. If you log in with your name & room number it will give you whatever wifi package you're entitled to. I think you have to be Diamond to get the premium wifi. I do this and it always picks up the premium package for me.

I'm staying there in a few weeks, I'll confirm.

IME if the network is named HHonors, logging in with room number works; if it's named something else then that means the hotel has a bespoke system and then you might need the code. I find the latter very rare in the US.

I thought i did book for two, but with flight delays arrived late at 10pm, reception was deserted and it was obvious it was just me no partner in sight. With late arrival pretty much just here to crash and return to the airport

But I will double check next booking before I return later in the week.

It normally just goes from how many people you book the room for

They don't have to be named, and they don't have to attend check in. (For all they know, they're coming later, they're parking the car, whatever - you don't even need to ask for two keys).

That should give you the double credit automatically (95% of the time). If they only give you one when you check out you can simply ask for the other credit.

I've never had a problem with it; it's a bit stupid they don't just give you two credits regardless as you're paying the same price.

As a gold member, at Hilton Times Square recently I was given a code at check in specifically for the premium Wifi. I can't say I specifically tested the code login vs the guest/room number option - as long as the wifi actually works I'm happy.

Some places in Europe differentiate single and double occupancy but I don’t recall seeing that with Hilton (other than maybe B&B rates or other promos specifically including food).

We had an almost Fawlty Towers experience in Spain a few weeks ago. Not a Hilton, just an independent place booked via Expedia and the manager was arguing with us at breakfast why we paid for one person not two. Turns out he had the wrong room. We didn’t see any sign of him as we checked out and they waived the breakfast fee…

I imagine that does the same thing.

I actually wasn't aware of this rule, but does explain why I've never seen a price difference.

A second guest stays free in the Member's room on qualifying stays at hotels when there are additional charges for double occupancy. This benefit excludes stays at any hotel when the rate includes additional components (e.g., meals, activities, parking), is a specialized rate quoted as a per-person or per-room charge (e.g. package rates, bed & breakfast rates), or is an All-Inclusive property.
