General vibe on this thread now is quite muted on Hilton compared to before…

I’ve stopped using them this year mostly because their offerings are a bit stale now in AU in particular with the exception of Hilton Melbourne which I love.

Agree totally regarding Australian properties.
I’ve got a couple of Hilton NZ stays upcoming so will be keen to see if it’s any better.
Had some excellent stays in Asia and the UAE recently so I haven’t given up hope

At the Hilton Brisbane now and it's been a good experience so far, got upgraded from a base room to the suite in 1 go, I will report back later. Although it is a quiet period after the Christmas festivities so it might have helped.

The two new Australian ones I have stayed at are both excellent.
DT Waterfront Perth and Hilton LQS.

I just emailed a few weeks back to find out how far away from LT Diamond I am.
I have made the 10 year requirement but only 2/3 of the base points so I guess I’ll be sticking with it for another few years 😆

Spent two nights over Christmas. Booked way back in August and as this was a family get together which needed a connecting room, contacted the hotel directly at the time of booking. They proactively upgraded all rooms at the time (although I believe that only two rooms are generally included in such an upgrade under the Honours program)

Rooms although tired where still a great condition but from memory the executive rooms were re-done around 5 years ago unlike most other rooms.

As this was over Christmas, didn't spend a great deal of time in the lounge but found it ticked the box. Although busy and hot (as they shut it for most of the day), the food was diverse and staff were pro-active. We did the Christmas buffet lunch in the hotel during our stay which was amazing. They had a photo booth and music in the foyer which the kids enjoyed alot.

Breakfast was in the main restaurant. Full buffet was offered both days and we found to the selection to be great. They even put on a few extras on Christmas day such as a chocolate fountain and fruit. Can't comment on coffee tax situation.

Over all, it was a great stay. This use to be my go to hotel when working in Adelaide but its been a few years since my last stay. Yes, a little tired but I note the manager has outlined that a renovation program is about to start soon.

Australia at a minimum needs some Conrads and Waldorfs to get people excited. Even Marriott Bonvoy has a Ritz Carlton coming up soon in Melbourne, and a W hotel in Sydney later this year.

Hilton Melbourne is in a terrible location, dead at night.
Except the homeless people.
The W in Sydney is in an awful location.
Why so? The southern end of the CBD is a lot livelier now than before.

Apart from the new WA going in at CQ, there’s probably no other “dress circle” properties up that end for a new top tier hotel. Unless one of the existing ones gets rebadged.

WA Sydney will be the one to watch I think. Actually, the Waldorf Astorias I’ve been staying recently (Beverly Hills, Berlin and RAK) have been the sole highlights in the Hilton portfolio. Just not enough of them out there really.

Compared to Hyatt and even Marriott, Hilton just doesn’t have that many shiny properties or even brands besides WA. A lot of Conrads are old and tired, not unlike older Westins or Park Hyatts. But there’s no W or Andaz, not even anything en par with Hyatt Centric (my current favourite sub-brands). Doubletree or even Hampton are just not cutting it in my experience (maybe the Doubletree in Wellington excepted- that’s a real gem!).
