Just thought I'd create a thread for this - looking back over the last year, I thought I'd done a thread here as well as on Priority Club.

We've stayed at a whole pile of Hilton's in the last six months. This one was quite good. Welcome gift of fruit and nibbles (dates, nuts etc) Room was a little dated which was surprising as hotel looked quite new. Late checkout offered during checkin, but not required as we were leaving early. No executive lounge which was unusual. Staff were attentive and responsive, although we had no real issues to test them out. Free parking. Fantastic value for 5000 points per night.

Hilton Sydney
Date : 5th November 1 night
Booked: Guestroom
Rate: $189
Received: Junior Suite

Upgrade showing the day before which I always appreciate. No card or Jar of nuts like last stay but a large bottle of shiraz was delivered to the room in the afternoon. They had a whole trolley full so gathered a few people where receiving them.

Will be there this Sunday (local time) and the following Sunday. How was the Executive Lounge?

The "continental" breakfast included scrambled eggs, bacon and a few other hot dishes but the 5-7pm was very ordinary and no alcohol was on offer.

Property: Hilton Surfers Paradise
Date: 23rd November, 2017,
Status: Diamond
Booked: King Deluxe
Rate: $ 246
Received: King Relaxation Room.
Upgrade appeared several days before arrival and welcome back email from Sergey.
Checked in at Executive Lounge with Oleysa. Offered to reserve a table in the Exec Lounge for us.
Bottles of water, chocolates and welcome card in room. Then a bottle of 2015 Oliver Shiraz and another welcome card arrived.
Oleysa made us lovely coughtails in the Lounge followed by a delicious (spirited from the restaurant I think) Pinot Noir before we went to dinner.
Very comfortable room but strangely there was no bath (which I wanted to ‘relax’ in).
Extensive Buffet Breakfast in the Restaurant

Pleasantly surprised to receive a 2-room suite with Lounge access at Check In. The room I had selected on-line was not yet ready (at 1715) so maybe this was a room that was ready. I usually stay at the Conrad but that property is getting very expensive - maybe while the renovations taking place.

The Lounge selection each evening much improved from my memory. I was also impressed by the staff I came across and by the free 1600 check out I received. Better than I was expecting.

I'm not complaining as I arrived at 0715 (after flight from SIN). I would happily take any acceptable room than wait in reception. You can (almost) see the sea from the room on the top floor (11th). Normal amenities in a quite modern hotel - not really convenient though for public transport and a way from the sights. The shower was most difficult to work out and the water scalding early the next morning. Excellent breakfast for a European hotel.

Here is an example of checking the rates closer to arriving if you have booked in a few weeks before the trip. Rate dropped some EUR50 over a two night stay in 4 weeks - maybe due to the political uncertainty in Barcelona just now.

King Hilton Deluxe to Executive King. Is that even an upgrade? It's my first time here. I was bugging them for an early check-in at 9:30 am and eventually got in at midday.
Also, has anyone experienced a consistent buzzing type noise in the early hours of the morning on the executive levels? Being 1/2 asleep I couldn't tell if it was coming from the staff area or outside. Seemed to go from 1 am to 3 am.

Dates: 22-27 November
Status: Diamond
Booked: 2 bedroom marina view
Received: 3 bedroom beach view

Checking in on the app indicated an upgrade to a two bedroom beach view. We arrived at 11am after a 6 night stay in an Airbnb apartment in the marina. With the early arrival the 2 bedroom room was not yet available so they gave us a further upgrade to a three bedroom beach view apartment. Seriously big apartment with three really good bedrooms and a huge living room. 2.5 bathrooms and full kitchen and laundry.

We are a party of 5 - two adults and three children. At checkin we were advised that the executive lounge access would only be for 2 and that extra guest passes could be purchased for around AU$40 / guest per day. Respectfully declined and trying our luck there was no problem getting the 5 of us into the executive lounge each day. Decent spread for breakfast including omelettes to order. Drinks through the day and evening drinks and canapés from 6-8pm. The lounge on the 35th floor has a really nice terrace looking back over the marina.

This is a fantastic hotel in a great location with access to all of the facilities of the beach front Hilton Jumeirah across the road.

Deluxe to exec king has been the standard 'upgrade' for me in ADL. I have only had one upgrade to a junior suite.

I'm after a quick poll on any advice/experience. I searched the thread and on p.239 or so there was some chat about benefits/drawbacks of online check-in. As a diamond member, what are your thoughts for HSYD this week if I'm offered the chance online in advance of an upgrade, is it a good idea to do OLCI or wait until arrival at the hotel? There may not be an exact science to it but thought I'd see if there was any consensus :) Thanks

HSYD used to do upgrades on the morning of stay only, so OLCI best avoided, but recently I've seen it happen about 5pm the day before.

My review earlier actually referred to the Hilton in Barcelona rather than Madrid - the edit function had disappeared before I discovered my error. Not an issue really as much the same applies to the Hilton in Madrid

This hotel is even more remote - but OK for me as I have meetings nearby and excellent if you want an airport location. A reasonably new, modern hotel, with the normal Honors level amenities. WiFi not as good as BCN and, as I said, the worst Lounge in terms of food I have found recently. What you would expect from a North American lounge. They do have a good breakfast buffet downstairs - even if it was busy as the Hotel at 100% due to conference on-site. There is wine and self pour spirits in the Lounge so all is not lost. Three free shuttles per day to the city and the normal airport shuttles but not near any public transport - unless you use cabs or are prepared to walk 15 mins to the metro.

I did wonder how you were almost getting a sea view.....That must be some kind of special high building.

I wouldn't be OLCI-ing unless the allocated room is relaxation room or above.

Booked: King Superior (200 GBP/night)
Received: King Grand Deluxe, good room but concrete view
Benefits: platter of chocs, 4x bottles water per day, good Exec lounge with canapes/freepour drinks, great breakfast in restaurant-seemed to be a lot of political breakfasts going on as next door to Houses of Parliament

Thoroughly enjoyed the stay

Booked: Queen Guestroom
Received: Queen Suite on top floor
Mentioned at check in that it would be my last stay of the year and the lovely front desk staff assigned the suite and wished me a very merry Christmas, so sweet of her. I thought it came with queen size bed but mine had the king bed. Loved the layout and decor which looked so much plusher than the king suite but the king suites I had before were on lower floors and could be the unrenovated ones. Also, vouchers were back to 2/night. Apparently with the new rule, the voucher can be redeemed for most wine and beer but not champagne nor coughtail. However, the 2 drinks vouchers could be used to get a coughtail which was a fair swap.
