Just thought I'd create a thread for this - looking back over the last year, I thought I'd done a thread here as well as on Priority Club.

I'm a Gold member.

Friday, 22 May to Sunday, 31 May (yes, 9 nights)

Rate: Travelzoo $135 package rate (included bottle of red wine)
Received: Upgrade to King Suite, card from GM and the wine, obligatory 2 free water bottles per day

Wednesday, 8 July
Property: Hilton Parmelia Perth
Room booked: King Room
Rate: Award room
Received: Upgrade to King Suite, card from GM and the obligatory 2 free water bottles

Thursday, 9 July
Property: Hilton Adelaide
Room booked: King Room
Rate: Award room
Received: Upgrade to Exec Floor, card from GM and the obligatory 2 free water bottles

Saturday, 11 July
Property: Hilton Brisbane
Room booked: King Room
Rate: Met Package (birthday present for Mrs LW, included 2 buffet breakfasts at Atrium Cafe & 2 tickets to Qld Art Gallery for Impressionists Showing from Metropolitan Museum New York - to get some culture)
Received: Upgrade to Exec Floor, card from GM and the obligatory 2 free water bottles

Got some more travel to do to Melbourne this Friday, so hoping to fly down Thursday night to sample the new Hilton.

Is there any advantage to checking-in on-line?

Yes, you get to select your room.

I stayed at Hilton Adelaide in early April. When I got the online check-in email I hadn't yet been upgraded and the available rooms were all really bad so I didn't bother. On the morning of my stay I noticed I had been upgraded so I had another look at online check-in and was able to select a corner exec room on the exec lounge floor so I took it.

I will only use it in future if I have already been upgraded.

Wow!!! I logged into my reservations tonight and noticed that HSW has already booked me into a relaxation suite for the next stay - first time ever! It's really pleasing to know the GM actually listened, will personally thank him when/if I see him. Also noticed DT MEL is true to their word about putting me on the balcony room after I took a downgrade last week to get to a higher floor room. Faith with Hilton restored!

I just booked a room at HSW but you reminded me that after a less than pleasant experience at DT MEL I was given a discount promise...
It's for my birthday so might stick to HSW anyway.. Enjoy the suite, the HSW suites are my favourite.

Thanks. I've never seen it so I'm really looking forward to it. I have tried all the suites at H-SYD but this would be my first suite upgrade at HSW, just a bit unfortunate that it's a work day so I'll probably won't get to enjoy it till past 7pm.
Oh and please report back if you were treated with a nice surprise from HSW for your birthday.

I think Princess Fiona also has trouble securing a suite upgrade at HSW. I have no idea what the issue is as it would appear plenty of others regularly get good upgrades. Could it be something as simple as an offhand complement from you at some point being noted as your preference? By that I mean if you perhaps had an exec room upgrade and on check out, being polite, you mention "it was a pleasant stay and lovely room".....which could possibly have been misconstrued by the attending person that you would appreciate that room all the time, hence having it added to your OnQ profile as your preference. Might explain the reason and would therefore be beneficial to politely raise it with the GM. I think the wine complement is the ideal excuse to contact the GM without appearing to be a demanding PITA customer!

I'm there in a couple of weeks on a RHOM weekend with my sis. Will report back what eventuates

Do a quick search, there's a couple of threads on it.

In summary nice place, suites are fgreat, lounge access great too, you won't get it free.

Stayed there a couple of months ago as a diamond. Booked basic room, got a suite, but not in the suites wing. As diamond had lounge access though. I suspect if a diamond isn't getting an upgrade to the suites wing, the chances of a gold are less likely. So if its the lounge with canapés that you are after, then probably best to book into the suites wing.

Happy to report, it got even better. Received a personal email from the GM (not his PA, unlike some feedback abt H-ADL) to advise that he appreciated the feedback and have upgraded my next stay to the relaxation suite. Nice way to end a really hard week at work. Seems like he could have swayed me to do more HSW than DT in the coming months, provided the $ diff is not too great.

The hotel seems to be a lot more polished since I was last here with some extra nice touches, including being on a designated and signed Hilton HHonors floor... Never seen that before but I like it.

I'm not a big DT stayer but we did stay in an unreal (and exceptional value) DT on Marjan Island, Ras Al Khaimah and they had a whole building signed as HHonors! I'd never seen that before but I have seen the odd floor labelled as "Executive Floor".

I can wholeheartedly recommend DT RAK.
