Going to Adelaide next Tuesday and there literally appear to be no hotel rooms available in the city at any price - is that even possible?

Anyone have any recommendations on last minute accommodation in Adelaide? :)

That is pretty bizarre! Must be a big conference on or something.

Do you have status with any of the hotel chains? For example PriorityClub Platinum gives you:

Platinum Elite members are guaranteed one guest room for personal use for reservations made at least 72 hours prior to the date of arrival, except during special events that result in extraordinary room demand, as determined solely by the hotel.

(but I suspect they'd pull the extraordinary room demand card).

Wotif has some rooms in the CBD (eg the Allegria and some 'basic' hotels that I've never heard of, and would probably be reluctant to stay in). The Allegria is nice, but is > $600.

One option is to stay at the MEL airport Hilton and commute!

It's available from $265.

Mal, there's a concert on at the Adelaide Oval, but I wouldn't have imagined that so many people would be coming in from out of town.

I have status with Hyatt which is actually why I wasn't fussed about it initially - but I just discovered that the Hyatt Regency is no more and has become an Intercontinental. Damn.

Serfty - the thought crossed my mind, but sadly I fear I'll miss the last plane home in the evening! :)

Come on, whats wrong with the Adelaide backpackers at $20 a night??:mrgreen:

If you're happy to stay outside the CBD, the Quest Mawson Lakes is 4.5* and there's one bedroom apartments on there for $179 for Tues night on Quickbeds (1 night min.)

Mawson Lakes is a delfin development 12km from the CBD and is probably a $20ish cabride from the city.

Have you tried calling direct? I just had a similar experience for my trip to SIN next week - the room type I wanted (King, non-smoking) wasn't listed online, but a call direct landed me exactly what I wanted.

Reason they are probably all booked: Classic Adelaide Rally 18-22, around the same time every year. So yes, it is possible for Adelaide hotels to be booked out!

Ah, that makes so much more sense than the Pearl Jam concert!

Will give your method a try Arch, nothing to lose in any case!

You will probably strike out with the Hilton - the event starts and finishes out the front every day, so I'd be willing to bet, most participants are staying there first up.

There are a few smaller ones around - Waymouth Street has an independent one on the corner, but I can't remember it's name -sorry.

Now I know what the concert is too - been away waaaaaay too long!!;)

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

maybe more towards $25 or $30 depending on time of day

have you looked at Glenelg. Tram to the city would be cheaper than taxi from Mawson lakes.

Besides the classic adelaide rally there is also the horses on this weekend, 3 day event and whatever else horse people do.

Have you tried the Majestic Roof top garden on Frome Rd. There are also Quest apartments in the city, Hindmarsh Square, I think and probably also Frome road area.

There is another Quest hotel on Greenholl road which might be ok. Also look around Norwood that is accessible to the city.

Ahh just did a wotif - The Flinders Lodge at KentTown might be OK. I think we put some visitors from the UN in there. I've also heard of the Welcome Inn, but not sure if it was good or bad. There are also a couple of Hindley St options available. But down market looking.

for real budget there is Arkaba Court hotel - had to stay there for a week when my first born joined us and I was working in a town 600 km north of Adelaide. There are actually 2 Arkaba's within about 500 m of each other. One is a bit a pub/hotel/pokies type place. The other (where I stayed) is a bit more down market.

Actually there are probably another 4 events on, it is the adelaide way. I got a big shock the first friday I decided (at about 2:30pm friday) to leave the mining town and drive to the big smoke for the weekend. Had to pay a fair bit for the Hyatt that weekend

No doubt :)

It is a bit hard to tell. I live down Northeast road (Holden Hill) and within 5 to 10 minutes of Mawson lakes (so about the same distance maybe a bit shorter, but in a different direction) and I usually count on $25, from the city during peak times.
