I just recentlly stayed at the Windsor Hotel in Melbourne under the beleif that Qantas F/F points could be earned there. I had made the booking in November last year for a stay in January using there website to book my accomodation paying up front. After I made the booking I emailed the hotel to ask how to have my points added to my F/F account and they replied at the time of checkout they will added to my account. On checking out I had my F/F card swiped and I beleived that all points earned in the hotel would be added to my account. On checking my last F/F statement no points had been added for my stay at the Windsor Hotel so I contacted the hotel to ask what had happened.Their reply is as follows.

I received you query regarding frequent flyer points for your stay in January. Unfortunately this stay is not eligible for frequent flyer points as it was booked on the best available rate of the day, ie. a discounted rate. Your Qantas number has been recorded for any future stays that are eligible for points. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you need any further clarification.

At no stage at the time of booking and checking out was I made aware of this. It seems to me that the
best available rate of the day can be whenever they seem fit, as I beleive I paid top dollar for my accomodation. I stayed at this hotel because it is on the Qantas website stating points could be earned.

So did you book through the Qantas website or directly with the hotel?

Sounds a bit harsh. They should have at least made you aware of the fact that the rate did not earn points on the booking screen. The amount of exceptions to earning points these days makes it a complete landmine.

Do not deal with the hotel directly. Fax your invoice to the QF service centre advising them that the FF points for this stay have not been credited to your FF account.

I have only ever been refused FF points once and that was for a stay in the Mercure in Broome on a $120 prepaid stay and Accor mentioned that this was not eligible for FF points as it was a prepaid rate. By the way this was the only rate available on their website and the rooms were very ordinary.

Well, to be fair to QF, it does say pretty clearly that you need to book them online through Qantas to get the 3 points for a dollar.

I do feel the whole thing is a bit of a lottery though.

My problem is not with Qantas F/F, it is the fact that the Windsor Hotel acnowledged twice that I could claim points only to deny me when I actually queried where the points were. This should have been made clear at the time of booking my accomodation. This is the reason I used this Hotel.

Qantas also honours bookings made direct with the hotel.

The majority of my stays at Best Westerns are booked direct through their own website and the Hilton hotel stays are always booked through Hilton and I get QFF points through the double dip option in Hilton Honours.

Yes it can be a lottery but my success rate has been quite good with the Mercure in Broome the only partner hotel refusing to credit FF points for a booking I made through their website.
