Hi all,
I wonder if I could pick the collective AFF brains-trust....
I travel interstate about 30 weeks in the year, mainly to Sydney. The company budget for hotel accommodation is fairly stingy at $135 per night, but I could probably eke that out to $150 at a push. In the past I've stayed a bit all over the place, but never found somewhere for the money that I really liked...

The ideal criteria would be (in order of importance):
  • Max $150 per night (inc parking if poss)
  • Central-ish location, but not necessarily in the CBD. North or south of the river, eastern suburbs, inner western suburbs...etc etc. Anywhere that I can easily get onto the major roads.
  • Parking - I always have a hire car.
  • Clean & comfortable rooms, with a desk.
  • Internet (FoC... or is that really asking too much?!) No probs if not, I can tether my phone - we have a substantial allowing with the work contacts, but it is with Vodafone!
  • Near decent cafes/restaurants etc so I can entertain myself during the down time.
  • A hook up with Velocity (preference), or QFF - would deffo omit this one for the right place!
  • I have Platinum with Accor (not that it seems to give much) and can join up with either Hilton or IHG and get elite level as a Velocity Plat.

I'll probably only be in Sydney over weekends twice or three times a year, and never during school holidays. If I can find the right place, I'm happy to pay up front for maybe 10 nights and could commit to a certain number of stays - probably 40ish nights between now and the end of September.

Any one know of any little gems out there...?
Grateful for your help as always.
Cheers,
D-H.

I thought Mission Impossible was fiction, but you seem to work for them with that sort of hotel allowance!

I find the Holiday Inn Potts Point often has cheap rates (sub 150) and a lot of the rooms have a good view. If you are staying there regularly get in contact with the manager and see if you can negotiate something. Parking and internet have fees associate with them. I would suggest if you are staying 30 times per year get in touch with any of the hotels you are thinking about using to negotiate something.

Thats not a bad idea, also with the hire car it might be cheaper just to do a day rental each day once parking is factored in, Potts Point has quite a few of the car rental company depots close by, and if its HERTZ or Avis and your crediting to VS, it won't take long to rack up enough points for a J flight to HKG given its a minimum 1000 point per rental earn with flying club.

That's a hard one, where do you drive to when your here, might narrow the field.

I do about 50 weeks a year over here. I stay at a place in paddington/darlinghurst on Oxford St called the Arts Hotel. Clean, desk, pool and free wifi. Edit and free off street parking, but it is space available, I believe.

They give me a variable rate depending on time of year that is within your budget. However, I'm not sure if that would be different of 30 weeks a year. But might be worth contacting them.
