I haven't noticed any posts on this BB, regarding hotel loyalty schemes....
I'm a member of Accor's ADVANTAGE PLUS.
For my $220. per year, I get one completely FREE night in ANY of their properties (including five star); and six 50% off rack rate vouchers, and a card that gives you a free meal when dining with others (50% off for two people; 33% off for three etc. etc.)
Additionally, if the publically offered internet deals seem better, then you can get 5% off those as well!
I'm fairly satisfied that it provides value for money..... anybody got anything 'bad' to say about them?

regards,

regards,

Now into my fourth year of "Advantage Plus" membership, and I've found it to be the best value paid hotel loyalty programme. The "Pacific Priviledge" lark run by the 6 continents chain is cough. Availability windows are too narrow, and rack rates at most of their properties are so obscene that any 'saving' is entirely artificial.

Your free night (usually easy to redeem) with Accor pretty much pays for the membership, and the dining discounts really add up.

As you said, you can often score better than 50% off the rack rate at www.novotel.com.au and then get an additional 5% off by entering your membership details.

Eg: My wife and I spent last Sat night at the Wentworth in Sydney for $145 including buffet breakfast for two and valet parking. That's VALUE.

BTW: The best Novotel dining in Australia is....

Breakfast: Novotel Brisbane, Creek St
Dinner: Novotel Darling Harbour, Sydney.

This programme also gets you REALLY cheap accomodation in NZ. I've often stayed at the Ellerslie Novotel in Auckland for NZ$80 or less a night.

Starwood have a similar deal where you pay an annual fee to belong to a program inn addition to the regular loyalty program.
However, I prefer the 'free' frequent stayer platinum card & the upgrades that I always get. I have enough points to stay for a week in a 5 star hotel like the Westin and easily rack up enough points to get one free day every year.

The Plat card often gets me a free breakfast for two plus Executive Club Privileges that is just like being in the QC. Ahh, so nice & it costs nothing to belong. :D :D

Frequent Flyer Status in Hotels ?

Has anyone received additional benefits, not from hotel loyalty programs, but simply from being of a certain FF status ?

Go to www.mandarinoriental.com (the hotel chain) and check out the Hong Kong Mandarin Oriental (not The Excelsior).

Go to 'frequent flyers' tab and click BA Executive Club :-

Here it is, from the site :-

ADDITIONAL BENEFITS :
Blue Card Members :
i. Fruit & flowers
ii. Complimentary newspaper & use of Health facilities
iii. Express check-in & check-out

Silver, Gold and Premier Card Members:
i. Same as above, plus
ii. Special discounts on room rates at all Mandarin Oriental hotels
iii. Upgrade to next category (subject to availability) at:
•Reservation stage for Premier Card holding members
•Check-in stage for Silver & Gold Card holding members
iv. Late check-out (subject availability)

Anyone receive anything like that from any hotels for being QC / Gold / Plat ?

I guess that now, these benefits might not exist because the BA exec club has closed down.

Marriott Rewards - US$1 = 5 Qantas Frequent Flyer

This is probably aimed for the more well to do or business traveller but...

Just thought I'd mention that anyone who stays in a Marriott hotel can get 5 Qantas FF points for every US$1 spent.

Almost all the major international airlines are represented as well.

I an in Hong Kong right now at the Renaissance Harbour View and will be staying here for about 43 days. When I check out I'll be using my Anz Diners Club card to get 1 for AU$1 points as well as the extra points from Marriott.

My hotel bill will ba about HK$50,000 (approx US$6,450) so that means an additional 32,250 Qantas FF points. Add in my ANZ Diners Club bill (HK$50,000 = AU$8,750 = 8,750 QFF Points) and you get...

41,000 FF Points for staying in a Marriott hotel for 6 weeks.

As you can guess I'm here for work but you can really build up the points quickly with this system.

FYI, Business class tickets for me from Melb to HK return was AU$4,500 and I expect to get a total of 11,000 QFF points for flying.

U rather stupidly used my ANZ Gold Qantas Visa Card so my points were capped at the AU$2500 mark (1 for AU$2 after that until AU$10,000) so I'll probably end up with about an additional (11,000 + 3,500) 14,500 QFF points.

Total for the trip will now be...

(41,000 + 14,500) 55,500 QFF points minimum. All paid for by work and enough to fly back to HK for holidays.

Daniel

Most of the hotel chains have excellent reward programs.

Whilst I am a member of four - SPG, Hilton, Marriott & Hyatt; I use two in preference: SPG and Hilton. I find that with my hotel stays (around 50 nights/year at present), keeping two at Gold is achievable, given that for 95% of my trips, there is usually selection of hotels between those two chains to keep me happy.

Whilst I was comped Gold in Hilton 2 years ago (through Citibank Platinum card), they have received 16 stays and 20 nights from me in the past 18 months. Gold membership has certainly got me comped to Exec Club floors in ADL (twice - one stay was 6 days), MEL, DUB and Belfast this year. I may lose it after 4/2004 and drop to Silver; however the times were good.

SPG is a similar story - I'm on 12 stays/12 nights this year with another 2 stays/5 nights to go. Gold certainly had me upgraded to better rooms in MEL and SYD Westins, as well as 4Points Darling Harbour (6 stays/10 nights there this year - after the 3rd stay, I started to get better rooms each time).

Benefits - SPG (Sheraton, Luxury Collection, W Hotels, Westin, FourPoints, and St Regis) for example, one can transfer 20K SPG points at the rate of 4:5 (so end up with 25K QF FF points). Admittedly it can take a while to rack them up, unless you are searching for the additional bonus points that are always on offer. I suppose it does help when you find a bonus offer for 50K points for staying in 5 of the 6 properties earlier this year - but other bonus offers this year will yield me 15K points.

Take the time to look at their web sites and the respective Flyertalk sites - a mine of information...

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

danielh, I presume that you were smart enough to break the booking with your hotel, such that you achieve (or be damn close) to Plat status with Marriott Rewards.

I see we are both on line at present - thus I presume you got the email from AFF regarding my last post and could be reading it now.

Platinum with Mariott

Unfortunately I will only be with the hotel for about 43 days. I need 50 to be anything. Next year I will be flying back to Hong Kong for work so I'll get close to the 50 and then I think 90 day mark which are the key number of days required.

So what did you mean exactly by 'breaking up the days'? Do you mean if I hit the 50 days mark to make sure I check out, get my recognition for Silver and then continue to accrue 'days'?

Regards
Daniel

danielh, some hotel chains will disallow long stays as eligible for stay credits, particularly when it is a negotiated rate. Thus, "breaking" the stay into separate shorther ones can make them all eligible. Some (SPG and Hilton for example), also track stays as well as nights.

You might want to check that your entire stay is eligible for all nights being credited.

Yep. Checked out and apparantly got my 'days' as confirmed by the web site.

I also got my QFF points allocated although I have not yet seem them in my QFF online statement.

Daniel
