Hong Kong Lounge

I hear the G16 lounge is good for Cantonese roast meat. Will try it out next time.

Interesting. Never been to G16 as it has never had good reviews and I understood to be pretty unchanged from when Cathay purchased Dragon Air five years ago.

If on those gates would always go to Qf First out Biz or even Cabin

I only heard it elsewhere - yet to try it out for myself. I'm thinking it would be good to write a full guide to HKG oneworld lounges on here for all readers to use. I've only used The Wing F and QF J so far, as well as Cabin J. Will try to add QF F and another CX lounge to the mix next time.

Anyone know what Champagne is served in the HKG First Lounge(s)?
I was there back in July and had Champagne in the sit down restaurant part but forgot to ask what type it was! How un-FFer of me ! :)

I was in the wing f in March and pretty sure that they had Moet chandon ( this was after JFK - HKG in economy so could be wrong)

Yesterday at The Wing first lounge it was Moët and the Peninsula house champagne.

Both rather nice!

I was of the understanding that QFF either Platinum, or Gold could access the CX lounges - Wing or Cabin, even if flying on Qantas. Is that the state of play at the moment?
As the Qantas F lounge is closing it would be preferable to go to the CX lounge instead of what could be a crowded Qantas J lounge

Yes, and there is also the EK lounge if you don't mind the walk.

Bear in mind the train to the piers is 1 way only so if your QF flight is in the low gates its a very long walk back.

Go The Wing F lounge, better than EK anyway

There are moving walkways most of the way along the #20something numbers gates, but still, it's a 10 minute or so trip.

Ten years so ago the train went both ways.

Used to be, but it's been arrivals only for the past year or two.
Gee, I didn't think it was that long since I had used it! The overhead signs pointing to gates 40-70 from the East departures area seemed to be directing passengers towards what I assumed was the escalator down to the train. Perhaps they are yet to change the signs? I suppose it was stopped in the name of security to ensure that an arriving passenger (pre-screening at HKG) could not leave something nasty on the train for a departing passenger (post-screening) to collect.

I have not been there for a couple of years, but from maybe the mod 2000's until then it was West to East for arriving PAX and East to West (Low numbered gates to high numbered gates) for Departing PAX.

If departing and you used it to go to high numbered gates, you would need to walk back (using travellators) to get to the low numbered gates.

When I was there in the 90's you could go both ways for departures (at least). I think with increased patronage they changed it to one-way services.

Sorry, I could be wrong, did some digging and found this on FT:

"Recent changes to the Automatic People Mover concourse shuttle train at HKIA mean that it is now monodirectional by level. That is, departing passengers can only take the train towards gates 33-71; and arriving passengers can only take the train towards gates 1-19. In short, if you take the train to the Pier, you cannot take the train back to the Wing and will have to walk."

I'll check in few weeks when I'm next there.
