Hong Kong - EK lounge may be best F&B bet for QF J/WP/SG these days

These curtained rooms that are in the pier, whatever they call them, they’re the bees.
Day rooms I believe they are called.

Very nice. .. If you have time and If you can get one! They have always been occupied when I have tried since the Pier reopened.

Same with the cabanas at the Wing, they are hard to get.

Early morning is probably the best time for both.

Been to both Wing and Pier J lounges twice in the last week. In my relatively limited experience I rate the Pier as the best lounge I’ve been in, certainly I liked it better than EK F in Dubai. Wing is fine too but can get very crowded and noisy.

What am I missing with the Pier business lounge that others see? Noodles? Last thing I want eat in a lounge. Champagne? Nope. Privacy and noise levels? Don't think so. What else?

Must spend more time there next Lounge crawl assuming it's back in HKG next year.

compare with the Wing, IMO the Wing is always crowded as it is near to immigration, and from the aesthetic prospective the wing is a bit too bright and open. the pier feels more warm and intimate. I believe the pier is also bigger too.

but I think the shower in pier J has a longer queue, so shower in the Qantas lounge before heading there.

Slightly O/T, but here I am in the Wing F lounge swilling champagne while I wait for QF98, and who should walk past me but @boomy, who is apparently flying CX back home (and says this is the first time he has been in the Wing for years). Jeez, us AFFers are hard to get away from...

Small world ha! Indeed I haven’t been to Wing in years. As P1 I used to go strait to QF and then Pier F opened... Don’t know why I decided to revisit Wing today, pure coincidence. Was nice to see you.

All this discussion re Wing and Pier is moot for this thread during the hours the EK lounge is open and one is flying Qantas with lounge access rights.

I had a long time airside today at HKG.

I went strait to the Wing "First Lounge" as I have been doing for two decades.

After a bit went to "the Haven" being the Wing's signature restaurant for a meal. My experience there was disappointing, small menu (4 options), small serve.

Ok, I had time, so took the people mover to gate 40 and the EK lounge. I had not been there before. Currently it's open for an early morning flight and afternoon 3:45pm to ~6:00pm. Being WP on a QF flight I had access.

The difference was amazing, F&B was at another level. The space was bright and airy albeit standard EK furnishing.

I eventually had to leave as the sole afternoon EK flight was boarding.

I am now sitting in the Pier lounge waiting until it's time to head to the gate.

These days, for those with QF Status or class of service lounge access and have time, the EK lounge is the better option.

Never been to EK lounge either maybe it’s time to check it out. A bit confused about opening hours, I’m flying EK to BKK in couple of weeks 9:30pm departure and the lounge is open only until 6pm? Doesn’t it supposed to stay open until last EK flight?

I was told the lounge would close after the 6:25pm flight boarded - I thought no more about it.

But of course there is also the 9:30pm flight to BKK (and DXB). The lounge was definitely closing, but the lounge would of course re-open for that later flight, likely around 7pm (closing again after boarding was called)..

I've been in the EK lounge before the BKK flight with wife and daughter not that long ago. Perhaps early last year or late 2017. Definitely open and plenty of wonderful food not drowned in herbs and spices.

Thanks for clarifying gents. Looking forward to check out another lounge on HKG. Big statement saying it’s better then CX F lounges, gotta see it to believe it.

EK lounge is OK, but seen one and you've seen them all (DXB excepted).
I don't bother with it unless I'm on the EK flight.

How does the Bridge rate against the other Cathay lounges? No mention of it here so far.

Not awful, but I took one look in my own mini J lounge crawl and mice on to the Pier J lounge.

Hmm having been to the EK lounge in HKG, I don't recall anything food wise that stood out to me. The food options in the EK PEK lounge impressed me a lot more. What I didn't like about the HKG lounge is that it's listed as open 24 hours, but it's really only open for EK departures, which means looking at the flight schedule to determine if you can get in. I got kicked out within an hour of entry due to the flight to DXB departing.

Much prefer the food at The Pier First. The Wing First has very limited options, and once I was presented with the same menu on consecutive visits, even though they were a few months apart.
