Sunday morning arrived at SYD International 6:18am, had BP 6:25 and was in QF First lounge 6:40!

It was busy with plenty of auto emigration gates working, the only real delay was 10 minutes at x-ray due to a few "not match fit" PAX.

Flew out of BER for LCY on Friday, where there were minimal queues. The flight was delayed 1:20, but that was from an issue earlier in the day. BER was quiet in the international section (eg where you must pass through immigration). At LCY, minimal delay for a checked bag, and eGates worked a treat. So pretty easy really, and we walked out straight on to the DLR.

I’m flying BNExSYD-ZQN later this week.

Being the start of school holidays I didn’t want to push MCT, so SYD-BNE is Friday evening with SYD-ZQN on Saturday.

Am I asking for trouble checking a bag right through to ZQN?

Do I reduce the chance of a stuff up/lost bag by collecting Fri night and then checking Sat morning?

You have to collect bag Fri and check it in on Sat. SYD does not allow through check for next day departures, something like no storage facility when airport is closed over night IIRC

I'm not sure I would class myself as "not match fit".

Seems like they are choosing guinea pigs for the new scanners and letting the rest through via the old scanners. Really disappointing experience as belongings become out of sight.

It wasn't so much the use of WTMD's and who were chosen*, it was the use of the luggage tubs and scanners and people leaving something in their pockets.

* although just about all had to use the new scanners.

This would be very disruptive

Not looking good

This Covid wave might become problematic over the next month or two with staff absenteeism. My workplace has been smashed in the last fortnight, my family also.

Whilst I understand is no isolation periods, most staff in my workplace are still taking 5-7 days off. Has been a few disagreements over staff asking for xx days off between management and staff also.
