Rather misleading headline. Not really one of the world's best cities but I agree that it is worthwhile visiting,
Bit of a backhander in the article though saying it is worth a weekend visit.

Isn't Hobart in New Zealand, or some other overseas territory?

:p

A place i frankly have to admit i have no interest in visiting (i know that will come as quite a blow to the people of Hobart.. :))

But its not alone in that either...

Tsk tsk, people. Hobart is a great place to visit. Lots to see and do.

And as an added bonus, they accept AUD. ;)

But the duty free shopping is just awful. They don't give you anything back!

It's a great place to visit. Terrific oysters at the place on the left just after leaving the airport on the way to Pt Arthur. Great steaks at the Ball & Chain. Interesting markets at Salamanca. Plenty of good seafood restaurants and a couple of decent golf courses.
Lots of history and interesting architecture.

I like visiting Hobart

Don't give Lonely Planet too much credit - Newcastle AU was in the top 10 last year and really....

Like me 777 is an ex Hunter Valley resident.I was even there in the days of the Newcastle song-
Dont' you ever let a chance
go by,O Lord,Don't you ever let a chance go by.Yes, up in Newcastle they have very strange mating habits. All the young women of Newcastlewalk down the main streetwhich is called Hunter Streetfor reasons that will become obviouslater on in the song. All the young men of Newcastledrive down Hunter Streetin their hot FJ Holdenswith chrome plated grease nipplesand double reverseoverhead twin cam door handles, sitting eight abreast in the front seat, and they lean out of the windowand say real cool things to the sheilason the footpath, like 'Aah g'day'.And every now and then, of course, one of the young ladies thinks to herselfUmmmmshe thinksUmmmmm.Don't you ever let a chance go by, oh LordDon't you ever let a chance go by

I still have fond memories of the place. But i now would rather go to Hobart.

Really? Have you been here? Capital of bogan

Born and bred there. And when Lonely Planet named 3 projects i'd started there as reasons it was a top 10 city i was possibly unduly swayed. :)

Is it sad that I remember Bob Hudson's song?
