Hobart Qantas Club to be enhanced!

Glad to hear that Red Roo.I actually read the title and thought it was going to close.
I thought of the same thing as well.

It's good to see the lounges being refreshed or upgraded - on top of HBA here, there are SIN, HKG, LAX, and PER over these few years (and I think DRW too?), and then the up-coming BNE as well.

Oh! HBA's enhancement is in the same category as SIN, HKG, LAX etc? I had no idea. :)

Bring it on, then. I look forward to the plate of the day (maybe it'll come from the new sandwich press).

(Apologies Red Roo, if only you hadn't mentioned the sandwich press .... )

I believe there's no sandwich press in SIN or HKG, so we're definitely ahead in HBA. :)

I read the title and thought they were announcing non-status flyers could now buy one entry access for 182,500 QFF points + c.$350 in fees and taxes.

Great news RedRoo! Always a welcome when new improvements are being announced. However, in this case there might be more than just an 'enhancement'. I can't reveal more though haha :p

edit: oh just re-read thats its a general refresh, but i still can't reveal 'it' haha :D :p

So this is what the current servery looks like:

Can't post picture because it says the file is too large, but link is
http://i1.wp.com/dossierluxus.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/IMG_2625.jpg

The pantry is on the left beside the drinks refrigerator, and the coffee machine is on the right beside the window. So I'm guessing the new refresh in question will remove the tarmac viewing couches along the windows? It is highly unlikely the buffet will extend the other way round as that is where the pantry and toilets are.

Also the business centre (as seen in the photo below) is quite small, it'll at most add 12 seats to the general sitting area. (again file too large, photo in link)

And if you're interested in the entire lounge review, its here:

Looks very similar to Kalgoorlie QF club

Like i said to the TAS Regional Manager, the HBA club has got to be the saddest and smallest capital city lounge I've ever seen :O

Well it's the smallest State Capital city in Australia.

That's a pretty tragic mismatch of furniture.

Is that pic from a 2nd hand furniture store?

Says here that there will be room for 95 travellers: Hobart Airport's Qantas Club lounge gets a lift - Australian Business Traveller

This is AFTER the recent re-introduction of new, smaller furniture sets to get more into the limited space.

Small, but perfectly formed :) .

Well a QF 717 seats 110...

Would be rare that 100% of passengers have lounge access.

The issue is jq pax combining with qf pax that's why it gets busy.

The issue is that flights to/from HBA are bunched. You might have 2 x JQA320 and 1 x QF717 leaving within a short time (and maybe one more jet if there is a delay in a flight). And no matter how you compute the # of status pax on these flights, the fact is that the HBA QP is full to overflowing most days. Increased seating will probably only achieve room for those who can't get a seat now, or who choose not to be crammed in and sit in the main terminal concourse.

To be honest, I suspect one of the main reasons for the state of the QP, and lack of a VA Club room is the greed of the airport owners, majority MacBank entity. Their intransigence in spending capital has limited expansion of HBA and there is little space for airline lounges. Even with the current capital works, the vast majority of the terminal building work is a re-jig of the current shell to cram in more retail, plus bringing the car rental desks inside so they can have more (paid) parking; there is b-all for increased passenger amenity (like airbridges).

As the QF arrivals area currently abuts the QP, and is being moved to the other end of the terminal in the re-jig, I was vaguely hoping that the QP could expand relatively easily into that old space. This may be what Lowjhg alluded to up-thread, and it would make sense :)lol: ) but I've never known QF to hold back on announcements :) .

Glad to hear there are positive enhancements to be had!

Not to detract though, I'm eagerly waiting for news on the BNE expansions to the lounges :p

totally agree. lovely to hear Hobart is finally being 'enhanced' but so excited to see how BNE turns out

Now the congestion within the lounge is real and happens on a daily basis in the bank of departures from 1000 to 1400. Between them we have the following:

QF1502 for MEL at 0940
JQ702 for MEL at 1015
JQ758 for BNE at 1055
QF1508 for SYD at 1235
JQ720 for SYD at 1250
QF1504 for MEL at 1330

6 flights within 4 hours, naturally the lounge will be quite full given its 3x 717s and 3x A320s worth of access rights (it's like everyone has QP rights these days)
