I've booked myself a SYD-HNL-SYD on JQ for March/April next year and i'm considering adding on a side-trip to SFO.

The fares this fare in advance seem quite high, so I was hoping someone could give a bit of an insite on whats a fair price to pay for HNL-SFO/OAK-HNL. Average seems to be $500-$600.

Best choice for airlines? Price is the deciding factor.

Award flights seem to be ok value, 36,000 points return + $US5 taxes... except theres none available on the date I need for HNL-SFO :(

Hawaiian into SFO or Aloha into Oakland. You should be able to pick up seats for about $400 return.

No SC's or points but you get that nice "island" feel and who wants to fly AA anyway!

There's plenty of seats on the (random Mar/Apr) dates I tried - it may be tougher at weekends. Or pay an extra 7k points and go via LAX.
