OK, one more AY status run and I think it may be worthwhile applying for the card. It would be good if you can get through immigration quickly to leave more time for shopping or sightseeing.
Hey, Hong Kong's a pretty good place... (I'm there now and today I no queues with immigration (7am); really helpful people in general, great day ..)

dust realised; when I first posted above it was, well, dream on... but in August I'll Qualify for that card as well; hopefully get the gear in time for my 14YO's promised Honk Kong Disney trip in October ... ;)

I went through HKIA three times in the last 3 weeks. But only one resulted in a stamp in my passport. The other two were only transits. So I don't think I would qualify.

I just received an email that basically says that HKIA Frequent Card has been extended to include outward departures immigration halls.

A great new feature. Will help as that is normally where I do get delayed in HKG!

(Of course if you're an APEC cardholder this probably doesn't apply ... but unfortunately I'm not eligible for that)

Note they have changed slightly the regulations on the card. You need to visit HKG via the airport 6 times in a 2 year period to have the card renewed. I believe it's only 3 times in a year to get the card issued.

They do care about the "stamps" in the passports, so unfortunately transits just don't cut the mustard. Short 3 hour trips do count though :)

I applied in late August and the card arrived in late October; after we returned. :(

Given the presence of the Wing/Pier, as a oneWORLD Emerald, I'm sure I will re qualify before October 2008. ;)

OK! There was 2 "business trips" in April and another "business trip" coming up in January. ;) That should give me 3 trips in less than 12 months which means I should be eligible to apply for Frequent Visitor card. :)

Yes, this is a good new feature, always a bit a drag getting through in the morning.

I must have been lucky.... applied in June, and sent from Sydney normal snail mail, and it arrived 10days later!!! That's efficiency!!

Yep, that'll do it!!

I used it last month when arriving at 9.00pm and the arrival hall was absolutely chockers, had Mrs Jasonja3 with me, so did not think I could use the card. There was no-one at the FVC line, so I headed there, asked the person vetting cards before proceeding to the counter and they processed us both no problems (in record time!!):D

I had a HK frequent Visitors card before my apec card. Heaps of times it saved me 20 - 1hr. When i had it they had a guy at the start of th queue with a big sign next to him with the logo he'd scan your card and you goto the front of the line.

In BKK & China I flashed my Apec card and was escorted to the front of the line, I love when it happens in front of the yanks, they all have an odd look on their face then they try it and get sent back.

At any rate any card that gets you to the front of the line is a must for the days it is lined up out the door, which sydney always seems to be both in and out.

Looks like I will have about three trips to HKG next year (2x1wk and one 1x1night). I have two stamps in the passport for this week (overnight stay on saturday and 1 week) so I will be eiligible after my next arrival - definitely applying after that.

Just Received my HKIA Frequent Visitors card, the accompanying letter says "you have to visit Hong Kong six time by air within your card validity period (2 Years) to be eligible for future card renewal"

The card has an expiry date of Dec 08 so I suppose I need to arrive at HKG six times before then. Should be able to.

My card is up for renewal pretty soon, and as I've only been through Immigration in HKG a few times over the last 24 months, I was thinking it would be cancelled.

Received an email recently advising me that my card has been extended for 2 more years based on my visits to HKG. Not going to complain if they want to extend it, although, really, I'm not eligible for it any more!

It is a great system - very useful and nice to be whizzed through inbound immigration :)
