Any point in using HK In Town Check In if I am not in town? That kind of sounds silly, but I am about 5 stops from Airport. I am travelling with a friend, she is going to check her bags in at HK station and I was thinking of just taking suitcase to the airport. Doesn't make sense to me to go into town and back track, unless there is an obvious advantage. I am hoping for one of these magicaly irregular opups  hehehe dreaming!!

HK In Town Check-in is only helpful if you happen to be using the Airport Express train to get to the airport. If you have better ways to get to the airport then don't go to the Airport Express station.

You need to have already purchased your Airport Express ticket to get to the check-in desk at the train station.

Also note that HK In Town check-in does not provide priority check-in desks for Qantas check-in. Though I have never had to wait behind more than one other passenger checking in. Cathay Pacific does provide different queues for Economy, Business and First Class check-in. Qantas usually just has 1 or 2 desks.

It very much depends on your schedule and what you want to do on your last day.

Last holiday in HK we checked out early from the Olympic Terrace Suites and caught the train from Nam Cheong to Kowloon. We then used the Airport check-in there (had a 1-trip Airport Express Octopus) and caught the train back to Disneyland for a day of childish fun. In the evening we caught the train back to Tsing Yi, which let us pick up the Airport Express train. As you step off at the airport there is a booth to cash in the remainding value of the Octopus cards, and then it took about 5 minutes to reach the QC.

Probably the most stress-free way to check-in for any flight I have taken with my family.

We have used In Town Check In a number of times and have breezed through with a little excess baggage each time.

You can check in much earlier for your flight if using ITCI so you can leave your hotel in the morning and send your bags to the airport and then be free and clear all day.

You can then go to the airport nice and early to get a decent meal in the Haven and a relaxing bath in the cabanas...

That's the best benefit. Send your bags to the airport in the morning, enjoy your day with just a backpack and maybe a change of clothes in your room, and then hop on the train, walk straight through and almost straight onto your flight (or as the case may be, into your lounge).

Thanks for the replies guys. I think it will be convenient to do so, then I can do some shopping or sight seeing, and, hopefully I'll get a mystery op up at ITCI ;) hehe. Might opt in for points request on way to HKG on QF127
