Have stays at 2 different Hilton properties next week so will be interesting to see what their take on breakfast is.

As a contrast, I stayed at a 5* Marriott property in Mayfair (London) this week and breakfast was rubbish. I had better at a non chain hotel I stayed in 2 weeks ago that was £49 a night!

Absolutely, just depends how badly you want status I suppose.

There's some bargains to be had, too with rates lower than usual. Although that's not always the case of course YMMV.

Excellent news. I got HH Diamond in early 2018 (after becoming VA Platinum in 2017), so looks like third year of Diamond for me!

I got mine in 2016 and somehow I'm still diamond! I think I may have re-qualified legitimately in 2017 with double nights promo at end of that year but otherwise never been close. Appreciate keeping the ball rolling though.

So to clarify, if I got diamond extended to this year, that will still get extended a further 12 months for 2022?

Yes, it does.

I'm already at 5 nights this year, tempting to do another 10 at very cheap rates (Hampton by Hilton Corby/Kettering anyone? ) to lock in Diamond till March 2023.

I've been downgraded to silver. I will be spending about 40 nights in a hotel this year before returning home for Christmas.

Mulling switching from Hyatt (downgraded from Globalist to Explorist and will probably finish with 50 nights this year on World of Hyatt.

Reading it feels like I could get to Diamond with 40 nights. The Hilton in this city seems like its cheaper than Hyatt... Decisions, decisions.

I'm not sure Hilton led the pack. Hyatt extended status for those in a chunk of countries (including Australia) way back in March and followed that up in the past month or so with a couple of lucrative offers, including extension on certificates.

Actually, I think the best approach for those who are eligilble is to do the status challenge and earn Diamond through until 2023 with just nine nights:

There seems to be a sort of alignment of the stars at the moment.

First, Hilton has already extended status to March 2021/2022, depending on when your status was already due to expire. Then there's rollover nights, where nights earned in 2020 will rollover into 2021, effectively giving a member two years to qualify/re-qualify. And Hilton's current promotion means double elite nights.

American Express also has a spend $250, get $75 back at select Hiltons in Australia until 30 November (Open for Travel | American Express Australia).

Bring all of that together with the status challenge and I don't see why it wouldn't be possible to earn Diamond through March 2023 with only nine (actually, probably 11 actual) nights and a few hundred dollars, if starting the challenge anytime from October on a date that would take your 90th day into 2021. Automatically, you only need nine nights instead of 18 to keep Diamond.

For example, start on 5 October, spend eight nights at the DoubleTree in Northbridge (WA) for about $105 a night (if booking eight consecutive nights) or about $116 (if booked separately) for a total of $840/$928. That gives you 16 nights due to the double nights promo, just two nights shy. Use the Amex offer to remove at least $75 off that amount but tap your friends to use their Amex to knock $225 off (3x$75), bringing the total to $615/$703. You're left with two nights to reach the 18 required for the challenge. You could do just one more night before 31 December (due to the double nights promo) but that would only give you status to March 2022. If you waited until January and then did two more nights, you'd have 27 months of Diamond for, I reckon, somewhere around $1000.

There's nothing to clarify - "All Elite members will now keep their current Status through 31 March 2022 – even those members who were scheduled to downgrade in 2020 or 2021"

I suspect these extra years won't count towards the 10 years required for lifetime Diamond, as it likely counts based 10 years of 'earning' Diamond.

While the rules only say "completed years" by which they mean a full year, I guess they have the "by invitation" thing in their back pocket.
