Strange ... all you need is a valid HHonors number and it's password (PINs got the kybosh earlier this year).

...
Plus as a bonus 4000 points on your 4th stay during the promo :)
...
The bonus varies - mine was (and I received) 2K on my First Stay ...

BTW, for mine 1 Velocity > 2 QFF points so I go that a way ... (Velocity default is double).

So what's the best use of points? Points + pay for hotels? Free nights? Transfer them elsewhere?

I'm quite new to the HH game.

IMHO, the better uses of HHonors points are for anything you can get > ¾¢ per point value.

Best use of points depends on what you want to do and where you want to go.

Points can be used for cheap awards like at some hotels in Japan or Indonesia.
Points can be used for luxury city stays on a special occasion.
Points can be used for making dreams come true and stay at resorts like Maldives and Bora Bora, where rooms cost >$500 per night.
Points can also be used for P+P as well.

I've done all the above over the years and consider all those redemptions as good value, compared to price of rooms at each property.

As Serfty says, aim for more than (0.005USD/point).

I book Japan in the high ski season and the Maldives. Both decent use of points but you'll still be spending a motza whilst there.

Saving up for a honeymoon type destination sounds good. But that means I have to get married. And that sounds like a lot of effort :p
