Sure!

I’ve done the same thing, transferring in points to then book and take advantage of my hilton status.

Is the king executive the cheapest? You’ll possibly get upgraded anyway.
King Hilton is 60,000 points per night and King Executive is 70,000 points per night.

Around 10 years ago Hilton in Thailand used to upgrade me to executive lounge access as Gold but I'm not sure they upgrade these days. We need breakfast and lounge access each night. Those views of Pattaya Bay are gorgeous.

But you said in your post you’ll get Hilton Diamond?

That comes with exec lounge access, breakfast (which you can have in the exec lounge, but all the properties I’ve stayed at outside the USA also allow the full buffet breakfast in the main restaurant). And you’re entitled to an upgrade, space available, but usually available. It’s not necessarily just a ‘one category’ upgrade either… can sometimes jump from a standard room to a suite. Varies by property.

What he said. :)

Thailand is cheap to book basic rooms at generally. I'd be doing that.

And save the points for pricier destinations.

I booked Borneo this year for true peanuts a night and got a suite as a Diamond.

Full breakfast, Lounge access, VIP treatment from GM all stay etc.

I do not and will never consider 60,000 points a night cheap. Cheap is 20,000 points a night or 30,000 points a night. I want to do this for my daughter as she's never stayed in Hilton Pattaya.

Anyway @MEL_Traveller is more than likely right as wife is Velocity Platinum which equates to Hilton Diamond.

Better than ‘more than likely’, Velocity Platinum = Hilton Platinum.

But be aware that from the time of requesting it can take 20 business days for the status to take effect. And unite often the 20 days is jus the time you have to wait to chase it up with Velocity. It then takes another week after that for the status to update on hilton.

if you apply 1 Jan you’ll get status for the next two and a bit years.

I guess you could start the process a bit earlier given the timelines… but I’d be too risk averse to try that!

'book 5 nights in Hilton Pattaya King Executive for 280,000 Hhonors points'

As I posted, paying MONEY is often a far smarter option. You misread my point.

Rooms there often run under $A300 a night on Hilton site as an HHonors advance purchase, of a King Deluxe OceanView, that will be upgraded for CERTAIN for a Diamond, plus free breakfast and lounge access.

You get 20,000 more points to use later, AND retain your 280,000, for places that are NEVER cheap in money.

If applying for status match on 01 Jan 2026 will that status last until 31 Mar 2028? That might be better overall.

@ozstamps when I was checking Hilton website last night Hilton Pattaya King Hilton room was ~THB7,500 per night so 5 nights was ~THB37500 which is currently ~AUD1785. I do not want to spend that much on accommodation when 9 nights in Golden Sea is ~AUD545 including full buffet breakfast for 3 of us.

I have ~110,000 Hhonors points + 10,000 points from e-rewards and I can buy ~120,000 points for ~AUD925 and we can spend 5 nights in luxury.

We only travel to Pattaya and we may go to coughet sometime in future but highly unlikely to go elsewhere. Hate staying in Bangkok unless we need to stay for essential reasons like visa etc.

That’s correct if the account currently has NO status.

I remember there was some discussion about how status is applied if you already hold say gold. But as that didn’t apply to me I haven’t remembered the details. (that discussion might be upthread here somewhere, if that applies to Mrs JohnK

Wife Velocity Platinum first time ever and never applied for hotel status. I only thought about it as Im trying to use up those Hhonors points.

For me I should make Virgin Gold again February/March next year and will try to have the hotel status benefit reset but that's only Hilton Gold not Diamond.
