Sure!

I’ve done the same thing, transferring in points to then book and take advantage of my hilton status.

Is the king executive the cheapest? You’ll possibly get upgraded anyway.
King Hilton is 60,000 points per night and King Executive is 70,000 points per night.

Around 10 years ago Hilton in Thailand used to upgrade me to executive lounge access as Gold but I'm not sure they upgrade these days. We need breakfast and lounge access each night. Those views of Pattaya Bay are gorgeous.

But you said in your post you’ll get Hilton Diamond?

That comes with exec lounge access, breakfast (which you can have in the exec lounge, but all the properties I’ve stayed at outside the USA also allow the full buffet breakfast in the main restaurant). And you’re entitled to an upgrade, space available, but usually available. It’s not necessarily just a ‘one category’ upgrade either… can sometimes jump from a standard room to a suite. Varies by property.

What he said. :)

Thailand is cheap to book basic rooms at generally. I'd be doing that.

And save the points for pricier destinations.

I booked Borneo this year for true peanuts a night and got a suite as a Diamond.

Full breakfast, Lounge access, VIP treatment from GM all stay etc.

I do not and will never consider 60,000 points a night cheap. Cheap is 20,000 points a night or 30,000 points a night. I want to do this for my daughter as she's never stayed in Hilton Pattaya.

Anyway @MEL_Traveller is more than likely right as wife is Velocity Platinum which equates to Hilton Diamond.

Better than ‘more than likely’, Velocity Platinum = Hilton Platinum.

But be aware that from the time of requesting it can take 20 business days for the status to take effect. And unite often the 20 days is jus the time you have to wait to chase it up with Velocity. It then takes another week after that for the status to update on hilton.

if you apply 1 Jan you’ll get status for the next two and a bit years.

I guess you could start the process a bit earlier given the timelines… but I’d be too risk averse to try that!
