Second comment for tonight (night here in Colombia):

getting back OT for this thread, I am on about 20,000 LTSC - I was on 0 and bronze in 2011, which is the year I discovered AFF. So have got those since then, with an average of about 4000 per year for the last 3 years. So to equal the legendary ChrisGibbs (from post 2 in this thread) I would have to keep up my current travel for the next 15 years - and by God I hope that isn't the case - current life destroys me :)

I’m a few years ahead of you in joining AFF but roughly the same amount of LTSC. Mine were close to zero when I joined. I have no desire to emulate the great and the good in this thread. Shrek would find a new ogre to replace me ;)

Struggling to use your Frequent Flyer Points?

Frequent Flyer Concierge takes the hard work out of finding award availability and redeeming your frequent flyer or credit card points for flights.

Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, the Frequent Flyer Concierge team at Frequent Flyer Concierge will help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

So I took a look at those cheap SC run options, BKK to all types of places with MH, AA, since the realignment these have dropped back, ADL to south pacific initially interested me as MissM is in SA. After reading some of the threads I can not understand why some people would do this to themselves just to chase status, each to their own I guess. I realise some maybe airline enthusiasts or enjoy flying, I am neither. I do like to travel in a degree of comfort and do not really care about J 2x2x2 (I just sit in the middle section to get aisle access) and still find the skybed II more than adequate.

During my first 20 odd years with QF I was a paid up member of QP and did not care about SC or points so was slow out of the blocks. About 4 years back started flying again and discovered some of the FF sites. Within first 15 months I was VA WP and QF P1 and have maintained both since. I have also learnt a lot from avid travelers. In 2013 I started with a QF base of 780 (20 years of flying but not caring about SC) and only hit LTG a couple of months back, currently around 15K SC which will grow but not fussed by how many.

I am sure my headstone will not read "Here lies Matt, Husband of MrsM, Father of MissM, Missed by QFF - 50,000 LTSC, RIP"

Really?
500 SC for $1000 on a QF marketed flight?

I am not in the SC chasing game but I do enjoy all the fun of that hobby and interest anyway. If you PM me how that is possible I swear never to share it with anyone else, but will acknowledge publicly that I was completely wrong in not believing this :)
Something like PER-NAN or PER-NOU via MEL-BNE-SYD. I have been searching without luck trying to find the posts. There were a couple of other runs mentioned to SIN and also CGK.

Maybe ideas are found on paper (or the net), but are they accurate and real? The ADL-MEL-SYD-NOU thing, if you bought it at the current super sale price of $1050 ONE WAY, and you ALSO did it during DSC promotions, still only nets you 600 SC for a return trip costing you $2,100. To reach P1 on that you need to do 6 trips.

So it would cost you $12,600.
It's possible to achieve with spend of <$10,000. Don't forget you only need 2700 SCs from QF/JQ flights.

I did the ADL NOU return last year on DSCs for 880 SCs and it cost about $1200 IIRC. But by the 7th and 8th sectors (you go via BNE and MEL) I was pretty over it and I didn't rush to book it when the same fare came up again this year. I wouldn't totally rule out doing it again, but it was hard work. Who knew sitting was so tiring o_O

The relatively 'expensive' part of P1 earning is the 2400SC's 2700 SC's needed to be earned on QF markets flights - without SC bonus that's more than 6 of those return NOU trips.

The Other 1200SC's 900SC's is a doddle compared to that.

it is also 2700 SC on QF marketed flights only. JQ/3K SC do not count towards that component of the P1 qualification criteria...

I am confident that JQ/3K flights do not count (or did not when I was P1, things may have changed since then)...
I’d say you are correct but I’m afraid (pleased?) to say I’ve not flown a single JQ flight towards P1 to test that out, not even a Flounge run on JQi :p

I find the QF marketed flight condition is the one that has applied.. eg QF codes on EK and AA have all applied towards my P1.

and somewhat like Juddles and PF while I joined QFF in 1994 (free comp from CO) I probably had about 100 total SC's by 2007 or so (as I did not fly much QF prior as I was an AN boy, and had a bit of time grounded). In fact my first QF status was probably in 2011 (the heady days of PS! :D ) and like the others never looked back. Gold 2012, WP 2013 and P1 since 2014 and now just over 25k LTSC

I'd ditch to some other AArline for oneworld status but somehow they BArely fit my travel profile.

I joined QFF in mid 2006. I now have 21k life time SC.

Been Platinum consistently since 2010 (2006-2009 was only bronze or silver).
I'll never get P1 under the current P1 requirements. With 'simpler and fairer' and the recent AA earn changes, it's unlikely I'll get to 2400 SC each year now.

Yes, PF. I’m envious of you youngies, who could pick up the option of BA with enough time to benefit.
Too late for me, when I discovered that route to Lifetime status that meant something tangible.
Or that’s what I decided at the time. :)
Perhaps should have taken the plunge then.

Edit: And I don’t know why the posts I am responding to are not appearing.
Will try harder next time. :)
