Hi all,

Troy in Darwin here, 15 years QFF currently Silver, struggling to get to Gold. Worked in the Army for 19 years, married with a little one.

My main motive for joining is to get info on how I can help out a mate who's wife has just been told she only has weeks to live. She recently beat breast cancer only to be told last week that she is literally riddled tumors, including two in her brain.

They have four kids under 7 and a 6 month old, she is Canadian by birth and they are all flying back to Canada to be with her family when god calls on her.

I have a good mate who is a QFF P1 member who said to get on here and get in touch with Red Roo, he also said that the members and other admins on here were very helpful.

Long and and bloody heart breakingly tragic story short is I want to make my mate and his families trip to Canada as comfortable as possible by requesting complimentary access to airline lounges and if possible an upgrade to Premium economy.

This will aid in making her final journey home as pain free and smooth as possible.

If anyone can help please let me know, I can PM my mobile number to discuss how I may go about helping my mate out.

Flights being booked tomorrow and I dont know on what airline, but will advise tomorrow.

Many thanks in advance,

Troy

Hi Troy, welcome to AFF.
What a very sad story about your friend's family. I know that our members (including myself) will help out in anyway that we can.

Very sad situation :(

Perhaps if booking economy with QF, your P1 friend could donate points for upgrade to Premium Economy, and contact direct with Qantas to see if they can make those upgrade requests work? As for lounge access, again perhaps Qantas can donate passes on compassionate grounds?

Hi Bomi18,

I have sent a PM to Red Roo on your behalf so hopefully they will be in touch.

Best wishes from me also.

Thanks for the private message alerting me to this thread straitman.

Troy, I'd love to see how I can help. Please send me a private message with some details via straitman.

Red Roo - Thanks for your offer to help. Fantastic to see great customer service when it is most needed. Bomi18 might now be able to PM you. New members do have some restrictions on the PM functions. But you can PM him. So, if appropriate, PM him with your contact details. Alternatively...

... Bomi18 - Please PM me or any of the moderators and we will pass on the message to Red Roo. Also really sorry to hear about your friend's situation.

Agree, it's sounds like a devastating situation.

I'll try sending a private message to Troy now. However as time is of the essence, it may be a good idea if Troy could perhaps get in touch with the Moderators anyway.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

AFF Supporters can remove this and all advertisements

What a splendid example of the value of AFF. Well done to Admin and Red Roo, whatever the outcome.

Their itn has been booked from Darwin to Sydney and then Sydney to Canada.

red roo has the details :)

The Canada flights are with UA and have two stops totalling 10 hours of layover, argh!! Poor buggers just for those layovers let alone that this is a one way trip for his wife :(

Hopefully both airlines can pull out all stops to assist in making this flight as comfortable as possible.

Many thanks to those that have assisted me thus far.

Regards,

Troy

Hoping Red Roo can wave their magic wand and organise access for the family in the new DRW Domestic Qantas Club.

Pity the outbound International is with UA - but perhaps Red Roo can organise access through the QF J Intl Lounge or other members here may be flying and help grant access with *A carriers via this thread. Alternatively, contact Alison Espley, who is the Director of Aust/NZ for UA, or contact UA via Twitter?

As a survivor of cancer (along with another Mod) as well as a person who gives pro bono advice to cancer sufferers, I can empathise with their plight. I hope she's able to get home and spend enough time with her family.

Where and when are the UA connections/stopovers? I've got a friend who's UA 1K... will see if there's anything they can help out with.

Hi mate, manny thanks,

into LAX on U840 at 0630 leaving for Denver on U556 at 1300, arrive Denver at 1620.
Not sur what a 1K is either sorry :(

Red Roo has been working wonders, I received a call. 20 mins ago from QANTAS, spoke with a very professional and kind woman named Leesa who has organised comp access to DWN and Syd lounges and is working hard to try and organise LAX lounge access.

Thanks so much to Red. Roo and Leesa and all the other people who at short notice are helping to make my mates trip that little bit easier. It will make a big difference, particularly if LAX can help out with lounge access.

Does anyone have connections with UA? I will endeavour to get an email address for the previously mentionUA Aus boss?

1K is an abbreviation for United's Premier 1K (top tier frequent flyer).

Glad to hear that Red Roo and the forum are able to offer this help and hopefully this hope can offer some relief to such a tragic story. Hopefully everything works out for the best and that this trip is memorable by all for the right reasons.

Tracked down her twitter handle - https://twitter.com/alisydss if that helps. Seems they have a Facebook page (looks like a couple of members here like their page) :)

I'm sure it's highly unlikely, but If an exception could be made on the down low, I'm happy to donate QFF points to get this family upgraded. I will chip in 10,000 points as an AFF family transfer.

Great idea Rob, but the DWN - SYD flights business class is close to full and they are flying SYD - LAX with United so QFF points are not transferable there correct?

Again great idea though!
