HHonors Gold/Diamond for Velocity Gold/Plat

Hi guys,

My Gold Elite status just kicked in and I was wondering about a few of the benefits...

I'm staying at Hilton Brisbane over Easter, and in terms of the "free space available" upgrade, how often or likely is this to occur?

Also, do I have access to Executive lounges, or do I have to be staying in an Executive Room? Does the upgrade ever involve being upgraded to an executive room?

Lastly, is it more beneficial to choose "Points & Points" or "Points & Miles"?

Cheers!
Welcome to AFF SurryHillsFlyer!

Officially the exec lounge access is only available to gold status members if you gain an exec room upgrade. Of course that can be over ridden by the hotel and they can offer exec lounge access even without an exec room, but I'll leave the likelihood of that occurring at H-BNE to the golds that have recent experience there (it used to be often, but not so much any more I believe).

Points and points is generally considered the better option, however at the moment Hilton has a promo for up to triple Krisflyer miles, which is worth going points and miles, but it will depend on what you want the most......air miles, or accommodation nights?

i opted into Hilton Gold 2 weeks ago and haven't had so much as an email confirmation from them.

Remind me. Is the cut off to get 2 years 31 March? (or is that with IHG)

With none or lesser status than the benefit being granted, then any time from Jan 1st.

If you already have that status then after your stus drops in early April.

Thanks swanning_it!

FYI, I opted in Feb 21st and it only kicked in today after chasing it up with them. Also, my expiry is March 2018.

My Gold Hhonors was due to expire at the end of March 2016, and I had booked a stay at a Hilton Hotel for the first 4 days of April 2016. I called up the Hhonors customer service line and asked if it would be possible for them to extend my status for a month or even a week longer to cover my stay. The lady was very understanding and extended my gold status until March 2018. Very happy and glad I made the call.

I had only done 12 nights at the start of 2015 in the USA, nothing since then and was definitely not going to hit whatever the target was to retain Gold.

As much as it's nice hear of a bit of good PR, I just hope it's not an indication that Hilton will start treating their gold like IHG teats theirs. IHG is basically worthless, whereas Hilton gold is still quite lucrative to have. If they do start throwing it around like confetti, it won't remain lucrative.

Well they're handing out status matches like candy these days. :)

I've let pretty much all my elite status's go. Wasn't seeing enough benefit personally by being loyal so I've started travelling based on the best offers across the board instead of best offers based on loyalty. A bit hard to maintain any status that way but in all honesty I don't thinking I'm missing much having experienced the top tiers and I'm saving an absolute fortune which is far more valuable in my opinion.

Ah yes, but well chosen SM's have a very valuable place in marketing. Beating a dead dog does not! (ask VA ;))

Oh, I forgot to welcome dougsuth to AFF...........My comments are not intended to chastise you! I'm very pleased for you and I'd be very pleased for myself, if it were me. My comments relate more to executive decisions which, from time to time, don't seem to make a great deal of sense (ask VA ;))

No worries at all, I'm new to this forum but not new to forums, all good. I was probably so surprised I got it so easily because for me it has a fair bit of monetary value (free breakfast for two every day adds up after a while).

I was in Queenstown at the Hilton on the weekend and the Gold was great, free water, free breakfast and late check out made it that bit better.

Ozjuice, have you heard anything yet? I opted in on 22 March and received an email from Velocity the same day confirming that I'd taken up the offer, but nothing from HH yet at all and the status on my account is still showing as Blue. The Velocity email said to notify them if I hadn't heard anything from HH within 20 business days (which will be towards the end of next week) so it's looking like I'll have to chase it up then.

Thanks Ozjuice, much appreciated - looks like there's not much point in contacting Velocity if they're just going to handball it to HH anyway. I get a horrible feeling though that I'm going to ring HH next week and be told that I have to get Velocity to follow it up ...

OK well just to update you i contacted HH who had no record of anything at all on my profile membership and said they can't do anything to help. So looks like it's back to VA.
