Hey Qantas, why is it that ....?

..... I read that the new £3.5B aircraft carrier in the UK runs on Windows XP......

Good choice!

There is such difference between IT and the rest of the Universe. IMHO (no offense to anyone in the iT game!) it is the most moronic irony of human life - a system where continual change is believed good by designers, but that same advance rate ensures constant pain and ignorance in the actual users!!!

Fortunately my TA advised that the only reliable way to get assistance is to book a wheelchair even if the pax can walk. I've done this for myself (RTW Bulgaria Air were the outstanding best) and for a senior relative. Overkill in one way but ensured the assistance needed actually happened.

Yes. I've done that when I actually needed wheelchairs and a number of others were miraculous cured when they arrived in Europe.:)

I don't really feel proper booking one if I don't need it. Just an F host would have been good though.

So when calling the QFF line, why does the electronic lady say that they are experiencing very high call volumes and you should call back later, but after punching in your numbers, the next voice says wait-time is approximately 1 minute? Less than a minute later though the call is cut off. Try again - same. Third time lucky: about a minute waiting and a rather bored and disinterested-sounded Jessica comes on the line...

Well if you knew the day I have had!

;) :D

I just wanted a F Host or similar escort for the senior. The TA called Qantas and the Qantas advice was to book a wheelchair as this was the only way to guarantee assistance… It turned out to be quite useful when we parked at a remote gate and on other occasions when we had a remote stand but was overkill in every other situation. Nonetheless that was the advice. We felt uncomfortable too but it was the only way to get the help needed

Didn’t want to start a new thread, and seeing as this one has discussed amenity kits — thought I’d post how pathetic the QF F kit I received the other day is. Basically no different to the J kits you get on a simple trans-Tasman flight. And the pencil case such poor quality. The zipper got stuck and I couldn’t close it. Asked the FA for help. He tried for 60 seconds with no success laughed and said it wasn’t us but the poor quality of the kit all round.

That does look pretty basic for a so-called First Class kit.

Wow, compared to the SQ kit that is atrocious. Barely Y+ let alone F or even J.

That happened to me with a kit from my latest flight.

I also try to get a kit(s) for Mrs 340 and was surprised to see it was almost the same colour scheme. I believe the contents are only marginally different too.

The F kit is ugly and contents are cheap.
Why offer nice perfumes like other airlines...
Nothing says First Class like $5 Rexona deodorant!

Actually what I found cheaper was the toothpick / floss contraption that had a promo for Woolies on it. If I can find it i’ll Post a pic.

but but but... it’s Aspar *black*... the *exclusive* range.

Oh, and the 3D eyeshades.

But yeah, QF F is probably below BA F these days. Whereas BA’s F is an excellent business class, QF’s is just a slightly upgraded J.

I’m not sure it is even upgraded. Compared to the A330 and 787 J suites, the legroom on takeoff and landing is worse, privacy is worse (if you get the right J seat), headphones are same, IFE is worse, food almost the same, booze a little better, cabin is more spacious and quieter and obviously the seat, when swivelled, is too.
I sincerely hope (but have my doubts) that the work being done to gather views on F will see some improvements. Otherwise I’d actually advocate they not bother. Which is a real shame.

I doubt there’ll be any improvement. The imminent ‘upgrade’ is seat fabric only IIRC. And the product itself has been on a steady decline for the last 20 years.

I think QF have essentially given up on the F product, keeping it only as an incentive for awards and status holders. And of course the profit they make from those (in terms of the co-pay).

Those in product development must have sampled the likes of SQ and decided it’s not a market worth pursing.

Aside from the IFE, and notwithstanding my comments above, I actually think the hard product is OK. The soft product which needs — and easily can be — upgraded.

To be fair, my F was on a very modest points cost to upgrade to F. About three cases of good Epiqure wines with bonus points worth. Guess I got my value for money when looked at that way.

Sure. But it’s the total experience which counts. The best hard product in the world isn’t good enough if you want an express meal service, but don’t get served dessert until more than three hours after departure.

As long as ppl keep paying or burning their points on it gives QF no motivation to improve. Getting an F award seat to the UK or US without status is almost impossible and unlike most carriers I’ve flown the cabin on QF always ends up full so why should they invest to improve a best selling product where the money can go towards more lucrative projects.

Yes, the cabin ends up full, but how many paying? Unless 11/14 bought their tickets on my flight on the day of travel? (rethorical question)

Perhaps it was 11 upgrades, or outright awards, the latter which might have attracted $600 in the fuel surcharges?
